How, did I only just find this thread! Anyway looking at your deinonychus makes me think,  how small are Rebor's gonna be!

spinosaurus1

thanks. a 1:35 scale deinonychus would be incredibly tiny. i am interested in how they look. ill be honest though, their silhouettes don't look too promising in my eyes.

ive made a few more armatures. this time, on my favorite group of theropods

oxalaia

sigilmassasaurus

irritator

guess what this 1:20 scale creature gonna be

I think it looks like an oviraptorid. What did you use for the overlapping feathers in the middle of the tail? I like the effect.

not quite an oviraptorid  ;)

for the fethers, i used a flat sheet of clay and used a loop tool to place indention in it. i then used the needle tool to draw the lines representing individual feathers

That's interesting, I wasn't expecting it to be a loop tool.

I love that Ophicadon - such a lively pose! And the Diplo is adorable.

spinosaurus1

thanks everyone. started on the opposite leg of irritator. i'm really digging the pose myself.

heres the armature of inostrancevia. going to work on this as soon as the dimetrodon and irritator is done.

i have a question i've been meaning to ask. but how does one sculpt a good representation of skin wrinkles in the neck, body, and tail? i want to get a result similar to David Krentz spinosaurus or Dino- Soar Studios monolophosaurus ang yangchaunosaurus

but as i went with the method of rolling thin tubes and apply them to the body, i didn't really get the result i was after. is there some way to just carve these textures into the body, or do i just haft to practice more with rolling thin tubes and smoothing them into the body?

David Krentz didn't actually physically sculpt that Spinosaurus, it's a 3D model that was printed out on a printer. But I digress.

Have you used carving/sculpting tools to create textures? That, and a lot of practice, is generally the way to go about it.

spinosaurus1

ah yes, i do realize that david krentz spinosaurus is a digital sculpt, but i have seen clay creations that has achieved quite similar results. Galileo's sculpts being a good example. i was just wondering if there is a certain approach for representing convincing wrinkles around the neck, body, and tail. i honestly couldn't find any tutorials on this particular subject. i do agree that more practice might be what is needed for me.

i do use several tools, some of which i even created myself.

Archinto

Drag a tool and make the patterns for the veins then find the tool that will roll out the details. I use a bamboo toothpick with one blunt end. The blunt end works great for rolling out details.
I'm seeking Orsenigo and other interesting vintage dinosaurs. Contact me if you can help with my search!

in the mist of the saurian hype, i made an impulse build. i started and gotten pretty far with this 1:20 scale pachycephalosaurus that would be depicted the same as the saurin model.
heres the first picture
