Your work looks great. First, I saw an insufficiency of ceratopsians, but soon enough it will be no longer. Great work, and wonderful species choice. It must be cold over there. Here, the forecast for tomorrow is twenty below, with the windchill. I can't wait to see your big rex finished.

Thank you.  I'm trying to cycle species... theropod, sauropod, ceretopsian, ect..but that formula isn't working exactly...lol  If I get these two ceretopsians done , then I'll need to create a new sauropod ( Amargasaurus,Juv Diplo, Juv Apato ) then a new pterosaur finally..Quetzalcoatlus walking I guess..and/or a Cearadactylus.  Of course those are all members of species we already have.  I do want to create a Nothronychus ..and maybe animate it ( neck, tail, arms. ) .

It hasn't been bad the past couple days..but it's about to get colder I fear.  The wind stops me from doing much on the Rex right now.. :/   It should be done around Feb/March .

Thanks for your comments.
Would love to see a walking Quetzalcoatlus :).

Same here. I have a concept for him, it would be a sub-adult specimen. maybe 8' tall ? I might wait til I get the new CollectA model in to have a good, cheap, portable reference. ;)

Decided to stay inside today..too much snow, wind and cold..had some aches in the left side of my head as well for some reason.

Proof i haven't been totally lazy today...I can't believe the size of the head to body on this guy..reminds me of Darth Helmet from Spaceballs.

Little too cold to work on the Rex today..well too much snow at any rate. lol

Blade this looks great! With these two shots from the front even without the lower legs done you get a real sense of forward motion, kids of all ages will love it. Will the final piece stand without a forward prop?
Doug

Mr. Watson, do you think you can base a future safari figure on one of Blades Creations? (If any of the Dinosaurs Safari wants to make is in Blades park that is.)

I'd be quite honored..to tell the truth I often use their pieces to create mine. I've actually used the past two Carnegie Rexes and Doug's WS Rex as well to create this beast.

I'm doing my best to add a couple new pieces or more each year...different species and all.   I may get two more made then we'll have to expand to a new area to house them.

I have considered having figures or plushes made of some of our dinos to sell in the gift shop..something more unique. But cost would be a factor...say I invested in 20 pieces all painted ..probably going to make each one cost 30.00 or more each. I don't think most of my customers would buy.  Same for the plushes..I had considered getting Paleoplushies to maybe make us one to sell here..but the cost would be difficult.

Maybe one of the early concepts for the Park, circa 92' :

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'm looking for a size estimate and a good pic of a restores Protoceratops egg. I'm getting a lot of confusion with Oviraptor eggs in my searches. I need to sculpt a nest of these or if anyone has some 1:1 pieces already cast I'm interested. Thanks !

Blade-of-the-Moon

No luck on the eggs so far... here's an update on the head :

Rex update :

Really nice big legs muscles are visible now.  :)

ITdactyl

woah... woah... and woah....

I can already imagine kids taking silly "chase" pics with that...

And a bit late, but I agree with having just a sub-adult quetz (if ever).  That'd be playing safe until the issues with the giant adults are resolved.

lol

kids ? Oh you mean besides me. lol  I've actually already had kids and parents alike doing that with the juv Gorgosaurus. ;D

I have to figure out a few issues anyway. The long neck needs to be very stable..same for the base. I'd hate for wind to send it flying.  ;)  I'm thinking 8-10' would be a good height to do. Wish I had an exactly 8-10" model. It's easy to convert from inches to feet. heh

My current dino project list looks like this right now :

T-Rex
Animated Velociraptor Pack ( 3 )
Animated Protoceratops
Triceratops

After those these are possibilities in no order "

Diplodocus (35-40 ' ) all fours or rearing up ( 20' )
Standing Quetzalcoatlus
Animated Nothronychus
Cearadactyl
Anatotitan
Archeopteryx

That's also not taking into account the buildings I have to finish and the fx and paths to update.  So we're talking maybe one more of those and then it's 2015..lol

Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus

Wow, Chris.
The rex is looking amazing. It must be a dream come true to be able to be making all of these great dinos for a living!

Thanks !   It is a lot of fun when I can sit back and admire them..but that's not very often anymore..lol   I'm not actually making a " living " creating these..it's more for fun the entertainment of the kids of all ages that come here.  We take donations and that's what helps us create them too. I don;'t charge admission to the Park..I really want everyone to be able to afford to come here and see them.  :)

Especially on coupon day.

I too, enjoy seeing your work. The thing I like most about it, or at least one of the things I like most, is the fact that you are tying a memorable childhood interest into your everyday life. If I recall correctly, you liked dinamation (please correct me if I'm wrong). Years later, you are the owner of a dinosaur park! That is quite impressive. I wish I could do something like that someday. Anyway, great job. I can't wait to see your rex painted.

Gotta love John Hammond.." Creation is an act of sheer will ! "

Thank you, yes I'm a big Dinamation fan and collector of their memorabilia. Theirs was the first 1:1 dinosaurs I ever saw.  It had a dramatic impact on me I suppose..lol  I surely had no intention of ever owning one..though  it was a fantasy dream of mine.   I started off wanting to be a paleontologist , that didn't work out due to health issues..so I figured I could get a job with Dinamation designing dinosaurs for them.  Then they went under.  I wasn't sure what to do then..no plan really for years.  I went back and forth for a long while...doing the haunt then I took a big hit there and had to do something else. Somewhere in there I built my first 1:1 dino a JP Raptor,  that received a lot of attention...so I just kept making them and a Park seemed like a natural continuation. You have woods and a lot of dinosaurs..why not eh ? lol  Point being it's been a long twisting journey so far. Who knows where it will go ?

The Rex might be done next month ? Paint will come soon enough. :)

Protoceratops progress , Head is just on for pics...which I'm amazed is so large on such a thin body. Any major problems my paleo friends can see ?
