Being aware and not being aware are different. If you look at the Velociraptor skull and According to what you said ("...A " kink " ? Looks pretty good to me, other than being a little smaller I believe....") then that implies to me that you are not aware of the issue. When we are looking at the skull we are just very much shape matching; it's not really a new concept or research it is quite clear cut.  Do you honestly believe the snout would be that much wider when we flesh it out? Whether you can make adjustment of it is really a separate issue since the focus is on scientific accuracy.

Finger pointing? Well, I'm sorry you felt that way but I honestly didn't mean it. As to the comment on you blaming the model; I didn't realize how little you would try to look into an item before making the purchase. Not being argumentative but I honestly believe the info for that particular skull is not that hard to find.

Your scavenger analogy is a little odd. We are not talking about a behavior and we are solely shape matching for this matter. The photos and fossils are there for you to see; if don't agree with them. I'm not sure what to say. I would assume if any article that is freely available on the net shouldn't be a big issue for people to find.

I've often included the reference for you to cross reference them (so you can form your own opinion). If you blindly follow what others said without evaluating the info then I don't think that is my problem and I don't see how my comment is really a big issue here. I've been saying to you that you should go and read the references provided but every time I mentioned that you would say that you have no time to do so. I honestly don't expect you to agree with everything I said so that is why I refer you to the source. I don't object to reading other opposing views that is why I asked whether you can share your reference source.

Presenting both sides, well I try from time to time and often list them. Only if I knew them of course so that can't be help.

Not all fossils are deformed to the same degree. The scan is accurate to whatever is presented. For "Stan" we are not talking about correcting distortion but just getting the proportion. The only real difference is its size. I thought we are also just concentrating on the skeletal materials when we are talking about the tyrannosaur skull and how you would flesh it out isn't an issue at all.

I'm not sure why you kept referring back to when the animal is flesh out though. I thought we are just talking about the shape and the accuracy of the skull. I don't really comment on the external appearance unless there is a valid reason (like a sounded study on the topic).

As for the width of the Ankylosaurus skull. I suppose you can always refer them (whoever asked) to the papers for measurements. Also keep in mind that the width of the body on your animal is less than the one in the article and this would probably create the illusion of the head being proportionally bigger.

Why museum buys this skull? Perhaps this one doesn't cost much and also often people find it hard to visualize the whole skull if you show them a partial one. Another issue is that probably the better ones aren't always being cast and put into mass production.

Thanks bud, she's certainly been really popular with the patrons here.  I'm afraid it will be awhile for the Rex ( we need 300.00 in donations to afford the teeth and eyes ),  not too sure on the Velociraptor yet..been trying to work on it, the Rex, our new giftshop and the zombie elephant ( finally ! ) all at once.. heh

Here's a post from our Facebook page :

Who says dinos are for boys only ? Or for kids only for that matter. We strive to provide a fun experience for all here at Backyard Terror's Dinosaur Park, your continued donations certainly help us achieve that , thank you !

That raptor looks great- and will probably be even better with feathers. I can't wait to see it finished!

Being our very first dinosaur I can't very well get rid of him.. even though he's fairly inaccurate Winston is pretty much a part of the family here. He is beyond the point of modification now  and is clearly a JP3 Raptor. We have been calling him a Utharaptor and a Jurassic Park "Raptor " as well. The people coming here all seem to love him regardless of exactly what he is.. lol

Here is a pic some visitors took with him a few days ago :

Ok where is this place? If I'm in the area, I'll drag my parents there.

(OOPS) never mind, found it.

Not a dinosaur but I thought I would share this anyway.  I believe I posted progress pics of her before at any rate.. here is a progress pic of our zombie elephant " Hanged Mary " for our seasonal haunted attraction, The Funhouse. Based on a local event that actually happened in the early 1900s here.

Wow, the little raptor's coming along nicely! As a fan of animatronics and small deinonychosaurs, I find this one especially exciting  :D

Though I'm sure I can dull that excitement a bit..considering my how bad my feathers usually turn out..lol

I've already started a 2nd and 3rd head but the motors I use are scarce til about Nov-Dec..so those may get done up to that point then we'll have to halt on the entire pack.  I am thinking over making a Protoceratops as well to go with them though.  The two together are about as classic as Rex VS Trike. ;)

I'm calling this one " Vicious " :

Thanks, the taxidermy eyes do a lot of the work there.  Though I am trying to make each one a little different so as to subtly give them their own character.

The first one might be a younger male or female, not sure yet..while the the one in the pic with the eyes sculpted around is supposed to be an older, rougher looking individual..he's just more vicious looking. The next one will have slightly softer eyes  so perhaps it's the female ? I'm not sure quite yet..I let my imagination influence my fingers a bit when sculpting like this..it's very addictive.. ;)

I was about to post that the last photo is vicious looking .... you read my mind!  :)
