to be honest your vids are the most helpful for casting that ive found  :D

Thats a really good video. Very informative! (might have to get one of those spinos too.... when theyre available O_o) Now I kindof have an idea what to do for when its time to do one of mine. You're using smooth-on silicone to do your molds right? Which type are you using and how well does it hold up to multiple castings?
I'm seeking Orsenigo and other interesting vintage dinosaurs. Contact me if you can help with my search!

I'm using Smooth-on's Oomoo line, either 25 or 30. Using Mann ease release 200 really helps prolong the life of the mold and quality finish of the casts texture. I got over 40 Hylaeosaurus casts out of that mold, and that was without my preferred mold release. I don't use mold release on the simple open one piece nest molds, and they still give plenty of casts. I let the mold cool down between casts as it gets pretty warm. I use oomoo because it's the easiest one, also the Smooth on rep said Tin cure silicone is better for multiple castings, compared to platinum silicone which has a longer library life and won't cure on a lot of materials. Oomoo is also less expensive.

Come visit me on YouTube! I just fixed a problem with my mold and recorded it. I run into plenty of problems mold making, but maybe if I run into them first, I can share how to fix them so they won't be problems for others  :) . Subscribe if you'd like to see more videos!

Yes please. But may I request a genus (any genus) not previously done by major companies, i.e. not Plateosaurus. Love your work. Thank you.

Would love to see some triassic fauna. As long as it not a coelophysis, postosuchus or plateosaurus then I'm digging it!

jooooo

The Patagosaurus and Zuniceratops look awesome! Can't wait to see your basal sauropodomorph, if you are making one that is, I haven't seen any good models on those anywhere, which is a real shame.

Kayakasaurus

I made the Irritator mold as well as this smaller mold from the same kit of Oomoo Silicone (the Irritator required 2 kits to finish however). I'm going to pour the first Irritator cast but I did this guy first.

I'm finding your videos to be very informative. You seem to be using a different technique from what I've seen elsewhere, using two pieces instead of three. Is there something that makes two pieces more effective than three or is it just personal preference?

That's great!

Well two pieces is the minimum to open the mold cleanly by running the seam along the neck, tail, and legs, allowing the model to be removed and vents to be placed. If the dinosaur is more complex requiring the mold to pull apart in more than two pieces (cuz it needs to wrap around) or for a new seam to run somewhere that needs to be vented; then I'll do a 3 part mold like with Hylaeo's spikes or Zuni's shield/brow horns. The gait dinosaurs are usually posed in (with one side having the legs together and on the other side they are stretched out) molds nicely. Because it makes for all obtuse angles and no reaching around. It's hard to explain in text. With Irritator though it was a little tricker because the arms were in similar positions and they took up more space to capture the palm and vent the claws. I've seen a mold use 3 pieces for a theropod, so it may be necessary in some cases, or preference as you said. Fewer pieces means less seams and rubber bands though lol. Send me pics if you can of the 3 piece ones you mentioned. I haven't found a whole lot of pics and I'd love to see how people are designing their molds!

It's hard to say, but if it helps I can give you a broad range of $30-$50
