Unless they don't want to be a mod any more. There's no obligation to be a moderator, it is their decision, and several have moved on after doing their fair share duty :)

Not really an easy task, if you do it seriously.  But most of the time, there's not much to moderate, specially in a peaceful environment of level headed forum members,
