Starting January 15, a cast of a 122-foot-long dinosaur—one of the largest ever discovered—will become the new centerpiece of the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Orientation Center on the fourth floor.

David Attenborough to reveal remains of largest dinosaur ever to walk the planet. Renowned naturalist will unveil a full-size model of the 37-metre titanosaur, which weighed 70 tonnes, in a new BBC show.

Pachyrhinosaurus

Just another excuse for me to go to the AMNH. It says on the website that its a temporary exhibit, though (until 2020). I really hope this guy is here to stay, though.

Well this is a Dinosaur thats on my Want list.

If i commission it it will be the largest Model in the Animasaurus Collection at a whopping 45 inches long in the lines 1:32 scale.

I cant wait until they name this beast, How long do you guys think it will be before they give it a name?

I think they should call it Giganttitanosaurus

Temporary exhibit until 2020?  Well, at least they given everyone plenty of time to see this?!  Kind of strange to only keep it for a few years?

Tyrannosauron

Got to the AMNH this morning just after the doors opened. Words really aren't sufficient to describe the mount. I haven't had a chance to upload all the photos I took, but here's the panorama shot I took (hence the creepy spliced half-people):

You're not the only one getting ideas. At 1:40 mine will be 36 inches long.  ;)

Finally got back to my office and managed to upload my pictures. I've shared the album here: http://s1376.photobucket.com/user/tyrannosauron/library/AMNH%20Titanosaur

And here are a few choice cuts:

On an entirely unrelated note, some unfortunate news regarding the AMNH gift shops: it seems they've sold out of most of their Carnegie Collection and Wild Safari figures and are now stocking cheap Papo recasts. I was shocked and saddened to see that. Hopefully they improve the situation by the time the "Dinosaurs Among Us" exhibition opens...

Photos and video clips?  Thanks Tyrannosauron!  That place sure looked crowed the day you went!

Looks like a lovely display!  My only complaint is why is it mostly in a dark room?  I wish museums wouldn't display their prized mounts is such dim conditions.  Not the greatest when you want to see the fine details and for photography purposes.

I plan on going there this year but I think I'll wait a little while until the hype dies down.

Again, thanks for sharing!  :)

Anyone have a estimate to how tall that animal is at the shoulder?

Same here, I'll wait awhile until the mob disperses.  Does anyone know if there are plans for anyone to release a model of this beastie, either as an AMNH tie-in or just to capitalize on the current mania?  While it seems like a no-brainer, I've been accused of having a brain and don't know ...............  ::)

DinoLord

An AMNH tie-in figure would be nice. Usually their paleontology-related special exhibitions have just stocked Safari (;D) and older CollectA (:-\) figures of relevant genera.

19 feet it says on the website, but that's for the highest point of the torso.
Is there a good reference without perspective of the titanosaur? It would be interesting to compare the proportions of this and other titanosaurs without foreshortening, etc.

Stuckasaurus (Dino Dad Reviews)

Are we any closer to a name  yet? And is there anyplace to watch the Attenborough special?
