Starting to get some clay laid out on the Titanophoneus. I made the lower jaw and some neck support and baked it before adding this first application of "flesh" I'm really liking it so far. This guy is gonna be downright frightening... Heres a few photos

Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

That looks menacing! I seriously love your work.

Thanks for the comments! I did a bunch of research, and found that I could make a really killer diorama featuring a larger dinocephalian, Doliosauriscus guarding a fresh ulemosaurus kill from the smaller titanophoneus..... This would be really awesome if I can pull it off. If it all comes together like I want to, I might consider investing in molding & casting materials.

I was thinking of making it so that the Ulemosaurus looks like its still barely alive, or just died, and having the Doliosauriscus climbing over it partially and lashing out at the Titanophoneus and either clipping it a little or barely missing it. I dont really want to make a gored out feed kill, but it would certainly be dynamic!

edit: I've already taken the initiative to change the figure, and put the Titanophoneus into a defensive pose with just a few adjustments. It really looks like its trying to fend off a vicious attack!

Heres the latest update on the Titanophoneus! I've still got some muscle contouring to do in some of the areas I did detailing already, but its coming out pretty good. I might texture the skin with some fine sand paper to give an added realistic effect to it with the wrinkles :) I've temporarily mounted it to one of my bare base bottoms for ease of sculpting. It sure makes it a lot easier to work on the details, not having to worry about misshaping other parts of the sculpture, or wiping out the details... Anyways, heres some pics :)

That looks incredible. Is that how they make molds for mass produced models? With that much talent you could work for safari if something if you don't already. ;D

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Very life-like, i love all those wrinkles!

I'm not sure if he's smiling at me or hungry  though  lol

Archinto

Thanks! I'm going for the mammal skin look. I may even give him a few whiskers once hes all done and ready for paint. Once I get this guy baked and ready for legs, I'll start on the other ones. I could go two ways with this. I could make another titanophoneus along with this one, and have them attacking the Ulemosaurus together, or go with the scene mentioned prior with the Doliosauriscus. Hmmm decisions decisions! :)

lol i know how that is!   I tend to want to make new species over duplicates for some reason even if it works better in a scene lol making 5 velociraptors about wore me out ;)

Archinto

I'm finding mixed information about Doliosauriscus and Titanophoneus. Some sources say they are the same animal, but the dolio is a more mature example, and some sources say they are different species altogether. I look at the fossils and see differences in skull shape, tooth arrangement & brow thickness, not to mention the Dolio fossils are huge. I'm gonna go with they are different species fighting over a kill.

Create what you have the evidence for I say.  If someone who buys them thinks they are the same species , well it's not same species don't fight either..lol

spinosaurus1

i agree with blade. base the other specimen in the references you have for it, and it'll be on the buyers sake to perceive the two animals depicted being separate species or not. either way, they'll still have an awesome diorama of a Permian clash of titans :)

Thitanium Prince

I scrolled this whole thread and man, you went through a massive improvement! The early works already were promising, but you went so far with how smooth and natural your sculpts are. The  Titanophoneus is coming along pretty nicely, I like a lot its mouth!

Archinto

Working with fauna from the Isheevo formation in the Capitanian era is very limiting as far as large apex predators go... These guys are pretty much it as far as the biggest n baddest, but in the end I think it'll look rad! I plan on making the Dolio more larger bodied, and have the brow ridges be really prominent. The skulls are the major defining feature for me, because the brow ridge is really heavy and the killing teeth and front teeth point a bit inward and the snout is more truncated on the dolio, whereas on the Titano the skull is more streamlined with a proportionally longer snout and more "vertically aligned" killing teeth.

Thanks for the kind comments! This guy is coming out like I wanted it to! :) I hope to make some more progress today on it.

I've kindof taken a short break from the titanophoneus while i search for the perfect skin texture to make a stamp from. In the meantime I pulled out the ol' Diatryma and did a little work to one of the legs. This leg is finished to the knee. It gives you an idea how bulky this bird will be once I get the final feathers done all over its body, neck and thighs. I hope to get the other leg done soon, but I may wait to build that other foot due to being able to achieve balance. Best to save that for last once all the other sculpting is done... looking closer I may have to modify the smallest toes, as the small toe was from an incorrect skeletal diagram that put it on the wrong side of the foot. Drat......  >:( Seriously debating removing that toe, but it means more work. What do you think, should I remove it and correct the foot?

This is based off of an old reconstruction of a "predatory" diatryma with cassowary type feathers that eats little primitive horses... far different than todays herbivorous depiction

I think you have to quit It, Is Better than a Diatryma with a foot that have 4 fingers and the other 3 fingers.

I'm excited to see the final result, i'm not a fan of terror birds, but this Is a FANTASTIC sculpture.

Good luck.

The armature is the same for the other foot, to have an outer fourth toe versus the toe being a supportive toe on the rear of the foot, or as a dewclaw to the inside of the foot. Thank you for the comments! This one is a hard one to make, so its taking me a lot longer than usual to create it :/

You can see it here in this older photo
