Brilliant work!  I hadn't heard of this particular set before, I may have to track it down.  ;D

Yes, Archaeopteryx is supposed to be all black, but I found that too dull, and after all, who's to say there was just one Archaeopertyx species and all were black? ;)

Fear not, only one of its secondaries is known to have been black, and a recent abstract suggested that that feather may not even belong to Archaeopteryx!  ;)

Lanthanotus

Thanks ZoPteryx,...

The dinosaurs (5 figures including the Archeaopteryx, plus 1 croc) of the set are not perfectly accurate, but quite decent and should look especially nice with the other Tamiya sets.

Ah, didn't know that,... I think I read somewhere, that several body parts have been researched and found to be black in life, but I cannot recall the source.

Another theropod with added lips. Scale sculpting of the new lower jaw could have been better for sure. Coloring is another thing.... theat grey may seem a fairly simple color to replace, but in fact it's not a simple grey. However, as a whole and from usual viewing distance, the result is good enough, what do you think?

Artistically, very, very well done - can't really tell that its not a part of the original figure.  An interesting take.  Makes the animal look less crocodylian with the mouth closed.  Preserves the long upper teeth visual candy when the mouth is open.  Who knows which way was "right"? Like the look a lot - either way.... :)

Beautifully executed!  Really changes the familiar profile of the skull.

Few more customizations....
... I also was quite uncertain of the Papo Polacanthus, but there's not a lot of options to choose from when you want one. But while I never really got to understand why everyone bashes is I felt the urge to customize it a bit. Detail wise the sculpt does not fall short to any other Papo figure, but the helmet like head cried out for a modelling knive. I cut off the head, cut off the spikes at the back of it and remodelled the neck and adjoining head region. I also repositioned the tail a bit.

Let's not forget CollectA's Polacanthus, also a figure that did not receive a lot of love from the community, mainly for its dragon like head the the completly missing plated back. Both could be helped.

The only Indricotherium (or whatever name you choose for the genus) on the market (CollectA) unfortunatly is in no way as I wanted it to be and because its head also looks somewhat goofy I refrained from getting one and customizing it, instead I choosed another approach... guess the figure ;)

Great job on the Polacanthus! I actually like everything of Papo's original Polacanthus but the helmet, otherwise it's a nice figure.

The new Papo Polacanthus head is a great improvement! I'm loving the rhino, too.

CollectA rhinoceros calf?

No,... the base is from a very despised company - at least when it comes to dinosaurs...

It's the Schleich Rhinoceros, isn't it.

PS: While Schleich isn't as despised when it comes to extant animals, they have certainly been criticised for remaking the same extant species and making their more recent releases cartoony.

Reptilia

Wow, didn't notice this thread before, your customizations are great Lanthanotus! I just wish the Papo Polacanthus was like your retool. Interesting take on the Ceratosaurus too.

Lanthanotus

Work in progress.... I customize my Estemmenosuchus by CollectA to be more like E. uralensis than E. mirabilis. Added lips to cover those bare teeth, bulked up the muzzle and back of the head and - most obviously next to the paint job - cut off the bigger part of the antlers. The paint scheme is not final yet, not least because the differnt plastics used in the head and body seem to affect the color somehow. The base color is the same on head and body, but as you can see they differ quite a bit from another for some reason.

Flaffy

Already looks soo much better than the original!  :))

The lips makes the figure look so much more natural, still don't get why the original sculptor chose to omit them...

Can we have a frontal shot of a closed mouth as well? Thanks  ;D

Halichoeres

It's more reminiscent of the hippopotamus so often posited as its ecological analog. More like an animal, I daresay.

It looks more natural indeed. I think this figure is going to be repainted by many of its owners, like Schleich's Psittacosaurus and Oviraptor

As I supposed, this figure looks amazing with a serious paint job and a slightly modification  8)
Congrats  :)
