1/40 Humans

I've seen a lot of photos of dinosaur figures posed with human figures that I assume are 1/40 ratio to match the dinos. Anyone know where I can get them? Some of them appear to be maybe Jurassic Park figures, but I'm not sure.

CityRaptor

Well, let's see.
A lot likely came with the Replica Saurus figures by Schleich. Those had a tag and a human for scale. I think some Collecta figures have those, too. Then there are also the humans from the Playmates King Kong line, which are the same size. And you can get a 1/40 scale Alan Grant at Shapeways.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

The first on the left and the one in the middle are at 1:40 .
They are Schleich's references (called "Hans"), sold with ReplicaSaurus figures (now out of production).
The last on the right is at 1:35 and it's from Tamiya.

The Collecta's human reference (1:40 too) is sold with the Deluxe line of figures.

Those figures are used by collectors as a visual reference for the model being photographed, to know its size.
They are not in the same scale with the dinosaur in the picture and they aren't used to know how big the dinosaur was in real life.
Unless also the photographed dinosaur is in 1:40 (or 1:35) too.....  ;)

Thanks for the info. I've just started collecting figures and 1:40 seems a common ratio. Mostly I just want a 1:40 human to give people who see my dinos an idea of how big they really were.

I have a 1:40 man that came with one of my Collecta Deluxe figure but I was wondering if anyone knows of any other size scale humans that comes with figures or could be acquired rather cheaply. Looking for mostly a 1:35 or even other sizes.

Yes or human models in 1:20-1:15 scale. On Shapeways are several models available but an astronaut next to a dinosaur seems a bit odd  ;D

I like to put a human model near a figure to show the scale,
so it's one of the things i look for at flea markets, but i cannot help you because i do not collect just 1:40 figures.

btw, britains should be around 1:32, Heroclix (they are not just superheroes) shoud be around 1:50.
then there are the safari toobs, but i cannot remember the scale.
And, obviously, a lot of toy soldiers are 1:32.

I have a set of Clone and Storm troopers that I believe are in roughly 1:30th scale, though I bought them second hand so I don't know what title they were sold under.

I also have the small CollectA human which is 1:40th.

Both of these I was planning to sell off, I can get pictures right away if you're interested.

There are also the Mattel JW humans which are roughly 1:20th, and their upcoming 6 inch figures would be about 1:12th (I already use Figma's for this scale).

All, I have determined that I need a Schleich human.  If someone has Hans available for adoption, please let me know.  Happy to compensate for your loss. I hope that this does not constitute human trafficking.  ;)

The problem is a lot of dinosaurs advertised as 1:40 are actually a slightly larger scale like 1:35. I had a 1:40 human displayed with my collection for a while but it looked wrong and made many of the dinosaurs look way too big. I'm now using the Safari Egyptian Toob figures and it looks way closer to "right". The species that are really 1:40 can just represent slightly below maximum sized adults.

Fascinating idea. Why did you pick Egyptians over, for example, the Family Toob?

It was the only one they had at Michael's ;) I wanted to be able to see the figures in person so I could tell how big they were for sure. Most product pages for these things don't give clear dimensions.

Also, added bonus, the Egyptian stuff helps give my display kind of a natural history museum vibe.

what size are those figures? (both 1:40 and 1:35)

Fenestra

I don't collect Schleich, so I don't own a Hans.
But the CollectA man is 4,5 cm and the Tamiya man is 5 cm.

postsaurischian

The Schleich man stands 4.4 cm high.

From what I've been able to tell, most Safari toob men are about 1:30. The women are the same size figures, but that gives a scale of 1:27 or so.

There are others that don't quite fit, like the African Masai figures, which stand smaller. And, Kaiyodo made small plastic men as explorers and divers to go with their Ceratopsian, Tyrannosaur and Marine reptiles Capsule Q series several years ago. They range from a tiny diver at 1:250 or so to about 1:60 (the dino figures were all roughly the same size, so the scale humans were in different sizes to compensate)

The cheap, soft plastic "army men" toy soldiers are usually around 1/40. Lego minifigures are approximately 1/48 or 1/50 in height.

I only have one Lego figure and it stands 4.3 cm high. That would be about 1:40.

Hard to scale a Lego figure as the proportions are uh, slightly off... ;) Mega Contrux figures have slightly more realistic proportions and stand at 5cm, which is a tad too big to be 1:40, but close. More realistically they're 1:35 (but so are most dinosaur figures labelled as 1:40!).

My favorite 1:40 humans are the Marx cavemen. They're well-proportioned and pretty close to 1:40 at 4.4cm for the most upright standing ones.
