Of course in universe this is based on the color scheme of the male Tyrannosaurus. Yep, in the JP universe, females are brown and males are green. So yes, it's a father and son set.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Ironicaly, mattel describes this as a mother and son set....it refers to it as a female...

Seriously whats up with mattel making these identification mistakes.
First they call Delta a raptor who does not look like delta, and now they call the male t.rex a female....sigh

Although, this could be the fault of the person who wrote the description, who does not get all the facts right...

CityRaptor

It is still better than Hasbro making all of them male back in 2015,  given that at least the majority of them are female. And Mattel at least got Blue right, unlike Hasbro.  Sure, it could be better, but it's much better than Hasbro.

i think some really early concept art had Delta as that color so it might be Universal's fault too since they approve things and provide references.

UPDATE: The "leaked" Indominus Rex I shared yesterday was a fake.

Kathleen Milkie over on Facebook posted how the image could have been made. Though, she clarified she didn't create the fake.

avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp Thanks. Yeah I'll end up with two babies too, but at least this one is new. I was not aware of the Mattel store link (quite odd that they have it up there as the store is no longer a thing. But maybe it is used as a catalogue now. I don't know). And they are cute (even if Kenner's was cuter for me). I've definitely decided to use my existing Legacy one as TLW mother/doe, and the new Bite N Fight as the JP/JW rex (or Rexy). I know the Legacy (and other 2018 rexes by extension) do not have quite the right shade of brown, and are missing the dark face stripes, but close enough for me.

Also I am quite surprised they are calling this the mother. Very odd as there are JP fans working on this stuff, but it may have been an odd decision on Universal's part. Might be why Delta looks mostly like Echo (could be more brown or orange then mustard, but fine for a $6 toy I guess). Granted we don't know yet if Echo will look more like Delta. I mostly want to wait and see if Echo is revealed at NY toy fair or whenever, but I may have to just get her sooner to not miss out (would have today if any had good paint apps for the eye area). I also wonder why the Legacy TLW raptor uses M and the JPIII Legacy raptor uses F. If M is meant to designate male then it would be correct for TLW raptor, but if F is for female, then it would be incorrect for the quilled raptor as the female was the white and black striped one.

But going off the Mattel store link, at least they did acknowledge that these were based off the ones from The Lost World: Jurassic Park, since they didn't do that for the other Legacy creatures to my knowledge (even if it is obvious what they are intended to be based on).

Edit: avatar_Loon @Loon The link isn't working for me. I did see on reddit though that it could have been from store catalouge. If it is fake I will be disappointed, but I still have faith that Mattel will not mess this one up, since most of the film creatures have been very good so far in their likeness (at least for most of it, but I'll keep my expectations low for the teeth).

Another Edit: Here's some comparison pics with my small haul of today (the attack pack Rhamphorhynchus and the Protoceratops). Sorry for the potato quality and crappy lighting, but I hope these help anyone that was curious about them.

With the Dracorex I got before recently (and my cat being nosy):

The two Protoceratops:

All of the Mattel Jurassic pterosaurs I currently own (still no Battle Damage Pteranodon yet. The hunt continues):

For the Canadians out there, JWFK toys are 50% off at TRU.ca and they have the new Bite and Fight Rex for 25 bucks, the Mosa-Sub combo for 60 and Protoceratops and Proceratosaurus for 7 bucks ea.  The older toys are on sale as well, including the 2 versions of Indom and such.  Regular Mosa is 20 bucks, and the Destructa-Rex is 25.  Great deals over all.

Sauropelta

I'd like to see a giant Hatzegopteryx or Quetzalcoatlus from mattel. I'd also prefer that yellow/green protoceratops to have eyes.
Sauropelta (Meaning 'lizard shield') is a genus of nodosaurid dinosaur that existed in the Early Cretaceous Period of North America. One species (S. edwardsorum) has been named although others may have existed. Anatomically, Sauropelta is one of the most well-understood nodosaurids, with fossilized remains recovered in the U.S. states of Wyoming, Montana, and possibly Utah.

Loon

avatar_Sauropelta @Sauropelta Apparently their is a Mega Dual Attack quetzalcoatlus coming out next year.

Also, Anthony Christopher Fregoso posted his beautiful custom Suchomimus on Facebook.

avatar_Sauropelta @Sauropelta It does have eyes, but since they are a green color they kind of blend in with it (and the poor camera quality does not help).

avatar_Loon @Loon That is quite the beautiful custom someone has made. It really does that sculpt justice I think.

Edit: So here's a really nice checklist from Mattel for some of the Dino Rivals stuff:

From: http://www.collectjurassic.com/see-the-official-mattel-dino-rivals-checklist/

Also check out the amazing box of stuff here (and the box design itself is pretty good. I love the fighting game look to it, and it honestly reminds me of the old Street Fighter II game I had growing up, or even many of the Smash games I've played, etc). I would love to have that as a wallpaper or poster):

The Parasaurolophus can actually stand on 2 and it looks beautiful (even if it is in a bit of a tripod pose that way). The head looks to have a tiny bit of movement too.

Takama

I counted 9 of the 16  new species that Mattel has planned.

However, maybe its only 7, because i counted the Monolophosaurus (which was exclusivly a Battle Damage animal) and the Dimetrodon (which was a part of that Destructasaurs line thats just as rare as a certain Spinosaurus)

avatar_Takama @Takama The new 16 species will be:

  • Albertosaurus (Mega Battle Damage)
  • Amargasaurus (Mega Dual Attack)
  • Brachiosaurus (Super Colossal? If the SDCC pic is anything to go by)
  • Coelurus (Attack Pack)
  • Concavenator (2 Dual Attack figures)
  • Dracorex (Attack Pack, one with the ATV)
  • Indominus rex
  • Mononykus (Attack Pack)
  • Mussaurus (Attack Pack)
  • Nasutoceratops (Dual Attack)
  • Parasaurolophus (Dual Attack)
  • Plesiosaurus (Battle Damage, Savage Strike)
  • Quetzalcoatlus (Mega Dual Attack)
  • Rhamphorhynchus (Attack Pack)
  • Styracosaurus (Savage Strike)
  • Tapejara (Savage Strike)
Information from this list:

I suppose this could be subject to change and it is possible there could be more variations of the species above.

In any moment I have heard any rumors about mononykus and mussaurus, where is the source for this? And no, not the document, the reason why they are on the document in the first place.

About the video...Parasaurolophus looks great there. The review from WD toys didn't do justice to it, here it looks very nice. And what a beautiful box set! I wish I could get one of those!

Also, seeing the checklist, I don't understand why there are re-releasing the dinosaur trainer Owen (the one with armor). That figure is a self-warmer in most stores that I have visited, nobody wants it. :P

Faelrin

avatar_MLMjp @MLMjp The UPC codes are listed next to them on that doc, so they are probably legit. I have no idea how anyone would have found those so early though, unless they work at a retailer or they were leaked somewhere.

I'm hoping we will see more then just what we currently know has been releasing/made about at the NY toy fair only a few weeks/months away. Especially the Brachiosaurus. That would the perfect time to reveal it.

Ankyloranodon

There's been a few determined people using Brickseek to brute-force dig through possible UPCs in an effort to find the unannounced figures, that's how you get stuff like Mononykus.

Faelrin

Ah Brickseek. I should have figured. I just gave it a check (for both dual attack and attack pack) and a good number of them were up there (if not all of them). I remember when I came across the Plesiosaurus on there when searching for Battle Damage stuff months ago.

Speaking of digging for upcs, we're getting some more Savage Strike figures. Pachycephalosaurus, Plesiosaurus, Dilophosaurus, and a Velociraptor.

Faelrin

That's interesting, though I did notice the Dilophosaurus and Plesiosaurus before on that doc thing I've checked before (and linked). I also decided to take the upc code for the Indominus rex on that doc and it is most certainly showing up on brickseek (for Walmart at least) though has no images, etc. So that definitely confirms it I would think?

Could the Dilophosaurus and Velociraptor be the still not released legacy figures? For being part of the savage strike figures they need to be small figures but with an action feature. And those two fit the spot perfectly. If they are not, them at least the Dilophosaurus mold should be the same although maybe with different colors.
