If the best of the bunch does not look as good as we hoped...Then imagine what the rest will look like... :(

Killekor

Honestly I don't find it worse than in the promotional photos. I really like it!

Killekor
Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Silvanusaurus

Lookin good, Barry!  Expect nothing and you're never disappointed...

PrimevalRaptor

I still think it could have used a few different hues instead of that simple black body, but the sideview is not too bad? The sail/hump looks a bit thin here but the sculpt seems alright I think. And is that an articulated jaw?

Shonisaurus

I honestly do not understand the pessimism among the members of the forum the baryonyx of Schleich looks from my point of view frankly well. I may pick that figure up. The rest we will see, although Schleich's ankylosaurus, postosuchus and cryolophosaurus do not cease to have their charm but they could be much better figures. Agustinia I fear that is the weakest figure in the group. I trust Schleich despite everything and I trust his baryonyx.

Eh, the Baryonyx looks about the same as it did in the promo pic.

God, I expected so little of Schleich this year and I still wound up disappointed. The Baryonyx is the only decent one of the bunch and even it is overshadowed by Favorite and Collecta's takes on the animal. The rest... everyone else nailed the issues on the head. Just, I really hope Collecta blows it out of the park after seeing this. I need a company to help me wash the taste of this out of my mouth.

Neosodon

The Cryolophosaurus looks like a bootleg of the Giganotosaurus. The others are by no means very good, but I think they would make cute toys. They have personality.

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Toys, yes. And no collector's items .And that are what Schleich figures are all about in the end. Hence they don't care about scientific correctness in first place. And thus it will continue to be an issue of hit and miss.

Schleich is more focused on the toy world but has very nice figures especially for children, from my point of view we have to thank that Schleich has made quite bright figures especially the last two years, (oviraptor, juvenile tyrannosaurus, adult tyrannosaurus, triceratops , spinosaurus, psittacosaurus, diabloceratops, dracorex, juvenile giganotosaurus and tawa) and even that great (from my honest point of view baryonyx of Schleich 2020). Some figures among those mentioned even serve a good collector.

I understand with all the respect of this world that Schleich has an artistic philosophy from a toy point of view and we should all (including myself) get used to his artistic license. For example, Agustinia honestly seems much better than other brands and that figure is one of the weakest in this group of January 2020.

Prehistory Resurrection

In real life, Baryonyx did not have a small sail on its back. Two things that prove that Schleich's 2019 "Baryonyx" is actually a Suchomimus is the small sail running along the back and the color scheme inspired from Jurassic World: Evolution game.

It is like Mattel's "Sinoceratops" figure, which was actually a Pachyrhinosaurus with JWFK's color scheme therefore suffered from an identity crisis because at the last moment, its name was changed.

I guess this was the same case with Schleich's 2019 "Baryonyx" figure. This quite annoys me a bit. Why could Schleich not simply name it Suchomimus?

SidB

If so, we've seen this issue before - why wouldn't Papo name their "ankylosaurus" what it actually is, an euplocephalus? Guess the bary is seen as more saleable?

stargatedalek

They probably changed the name hoping it wouldn't be caught. Not that Frontier (or even Universal) could do anything about it, but it could theoretically sell better if it wasn't as obviously a copy.

The skull looks more like Baryonyx though.

Also some Baryonyx reconstructions show a sail, although not as pronounced as Suchomimus.

So basically is a chimera of Baryonyx (head) and Suchomimus (Body). Which is frustrating cause it would make a pretty good Suchomimus.

Takama

I think some of you are forgetting that Some Scientists think that Suchomimus is a Species of Baryonyx

So in that sense, it can be both.

Though I serieusly doubt that Schleich is even aware of that bit of trivia.

Silvanusaurus

It isn't even a sail on the new Schleich Baryonyx though, if you look at the first promo image its the kind of ridge/hump that is seen on many depictions of Baryonyx. Perhaps its just the shading in that side-view that makes it appear to be more sail-like, but the recent CollectA figure has much more of a 'sail' than this. And at least the Schleich doesn't have spikes along it.

AcroSauroTaurus

To be fair, more recent reconstructions show Baryonyx having a low ridge down its back.

I personally prefer this Baryonyx over the CollectA one. I guess that should go in the unpopular opinion thread.  O:-)

Same here. The CollectA Baryonyx is great, don't get me wrong, but I personally prefer this one.

Ironic that it's being released by the same company behind that awful quadrupedal Baryonyx figure from the late 90s/early 2000s.
