Eocarcharia's Collection (Lots of images)

Eocarcharia

It is a special time for my collection. At last, I have completed my collection of Sega Dinosaur King vinyl figures with the arrival of the Pachyrhinosaurus!

Just for fun, here's a group shot with my other Pachyrhinosaurus figures. I am eager to add the Beasts of the Mesozoic version to the herd.

The figure actually arrived a week or two ago, but it sat around in a temporary spot until yesterday when I got around to re-organizing my Dinosaur King shelves and giving them a much-needed dusting. Speaking of which, here they are:

Eocarcharia

Well, after a year of waiting and going back and forth on whether I wanted one, I finally got the Favorite Co. Archelon for a decent-enough price. Amazingly, it made the trip from Japan to my home in just 4 days.

It's nice having an aquatic animal that already comes with a stand, instead of having to make my own. I need to get on that. Eventually.

Unfortunately, the paint on one of its eyes is a bit fudged. I guess I'll add it to the 'figures that need their eyes fixed' pile.

The king has arrived!

Another fine addition to the turtle extended family.

I'm still waiting on that Carbonemys and/or Stupendemys figure. Safari? CollectA? Anyone?

Great figures. Specially the turtles.

Great figures. Specially the turtles.
Thank you! They've become a surprise favorite group among my collection.

My Beasts of the Mesozoic Ceratopsian Series Wave 2 order was delivered this past Friday, after I snuck a pre-order in just a week earlier, mere days before it ended. I decided on just the Einiosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus, as they were the ones that appealed to me the most, in a combination of familiarity, color scheme, and scale. The latter is the only reason I passed on the Centrosaurus. But I'm not too upset about it, it saves me $90 and a good chunk of shelf space.

Here's all of my Beasts of the Mesozoic so far. The Pachyrhinosaurus is startlingly large. I knew it was supposed to be big, but it didn't strike me just how beefy it truly was until I first unpacked it from the shipping box. It totally steals the spotlight from the Styracosaurus, formerly the most big and flashy of the lineup.

An update to the Pachyrhinosaurus family photo.

Einiosaurus can't quite compare in quantity. Sometimes I like to try replicating the poses of static models with the super-articulated ones.

Lots of new additions lately. I'll have more to say on some of the others at a later time.

Bonus: snack time!

ceratopsian

A good haul!  Seeing the Pachyrhinosaurus next to the Styracosaurus (which I have) really puts "large size" into perspective.

1.  Very impressive herd! Did you order some from Wave 3 as well?

2. I'm envious of your cookies

3. I've been too nervous about the joints to try to get them to sit down, but I'm glad to see this can be done!

Magnificent figures the ceratopsids of BoTM are perhaps one of the best on the market, although honestly the styracosaurus of BoTM impressive figure by the way still does not convince me by its touches of paint, but who will catch it! Prehistoric turtles are great too.

Thank you! Make no mistake, it is BIG.

I can definitely see how the colors would be unappealing to some. Personally, I love the Styracosaurus' colors, but I have been turned off by the paint schemes on a few other figures. The plus side of it is that there are so many of them, we can pick the ones we like, and then save having to invest in the high prices of ones we don't like.

1. Thanks! No, I haven't ordered any more at this point, as I'm not sure which ones I want. The Triceratops is definite, but I'm conflicted when it comes to the others. I was most interested in the Pentaceratops and Sinoceratops, but they are the ones most out of scale from 1/18th. The Utahceratops and Xenoceratops are closest, but I'm less interested in those species. Lots of choices to make. At least I have several months before they release.

2.  >:D

3. The joints on mine have been fine, not overly tight. My Pachyrhinosaurus' back legs are actually pretty loose. Not overly so, but enough to not offer any resistance when turning them. I would be most worried about scraping paint off if they rub the sides of the body. If any joints were excessively tight though, I would hit them with a hair dryer to soften them, like the tails.

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres BTW, what sources do you use when calculating the scales of figures in your collection?

Halichoeres

I try to get them from the original descriptions if I can. Sometimes you have to be careful because a photo of a whole specimen with a scale bar will have parallax problems (that is, things toward the edge of the frame will be artificially enlarged). But most descriptions have at least a few recorded measurements that you can use. If the authors furnish a full-length estimate, I'll go with that, but they rarely do; so usually I go for the longest element or series of elements that they give a measurement for, to minimize the percentage of my estimate that consists of compounded measurement error. Of course, sometimes all I have to go on is estimates in books, for animals whose descriptions aren't digitized or don't include good size data.

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres Thanks for the insight. I figured there was probably a better way to go about it than just searching google or wikipedia. (Although I'll probably still do that because I'm too lazy to do the research and it dosen't bother me that much.)

That reminds me, I need to actually read that Sauropod Facts and Figures book that I got.

Now, here are the rest of my recent additions that I have not yet covered:

Thanks to avatar_Loon @Loon for passing these fine fellows on to my collection.

Tianyulong among my other PNSO miniatures. I hope to acquire more in the future.

Kaiyodo Eryops with the only other Kaiyodo in my collection. Now I need to get some more amphibians to keep him company.

Lastly, Koreaceratops and the rest of my basal Ceratopsians. After planning to get their products for a long time now, I've gotten my first CollectA figure. (I have more on the way). I like this little diorama piece, it's a great way to represent smaller species without them being too out of scale next to their larger kin. Too bad there aren't more of them.

Halichoeres

Honestly, 9 times out of 10 Wikipedia is just as good.

I agree on those tiny CollectA dioramas, they're so great. Such a short-lived experiment.

And good luck on your amphibian hunt, they can be hard to come by!

My congratulations on all your acquisitions. To be honest, miniatures of prehistoric animals are more beautiful than large dinosaurs, although sometimes they are not as detailed. Figures are the miniatures that you have bought elegant and that sincerely collectors such as my case do not value enough.

Eocarcharia

Well, it's been a minute since I've updated this thread, and in that time I've added many new pieces to the collection and reorganized some things as well.

I'll get to all that soon. For now, I'll share my Halloween display.

The Beasts of the Mesozoic have gotten into trouble.

It's not as great as I'd like, partially due to limited space. I tried taking some pictures with more thematic lightning, but they came out... not great, so broad daylight it is.

Shonisaurus

My congratulations. Nice collection of BoTM figures by David Silva you have accumulated. They are honestly the best articulated dinosaurs ever made by a dinosaur brand to date from my honest understanding. They are dinosaurs made for collectors.

The pachyrhinosaurus is huge!

Halichoeres

Very spooky, if I were a trick-or-treating ceratopsian hatchling I might skip this house.

Some really nice figures in that new batch, too!

Hm, that gives me some ideas for next year!

For today, I have an update on my Jurassic World collection. I've rearranged it and pared it down numerous times since I last showed it off, but here it is in its current state.

I had to renovate the top shelf again just recently to make room for the gigantic Apatosaurus. I had initially planned to skip this huge figure because I didn't think I would have room for it, but between Target's sales and seeing others having fun with theirs, I caved. And look at that, space finds a way.

I think this is the best the top shelf has looked yet!

Now, a breakdown of the other shelves. Level 1 - Fallen Kingdom main dinosaur releases, and Legacy Collection stuff, now with the addition of the T. rex escape set that I acquired recently along with the Apatosaurus.

Level 2 - Fallen Kingdom stuff that didn't fit in the shelves above, Mercenaries & capture vehicles, Battle Damage dinos, and extra Legacy Collection/Target exclusive stuff. I'm thinking of repainting the original Extreme Chomping T. rex into the Doe from TLW to go with the Buck and juvenile. Someday.

Level 3 - Dino Rivals and Primal Attack releases. Sorry for the shoddy lighting on some of these pictures, my photographs are from professional grade.

Level 4 - Right now this is just what's left of my Mini dinos and Matchbox vehicles. The other empty shelves will be for anything I get this year and next year, or whatever gets kicked out of its current shelf by Dominion releases.

But wait, that's not all! Well, almost. This guy arrived in the mail yesterday. He'll be featured properly in a later post.

Shonisaurus

My congratulations twice, first for ordering all Mattel dinosaurs, they are very beautiful and attractive and it is a leading company although in my case I am not a collector and on the other hand I congratulate you for having received in your collection the borealopelta of PNSO a figure of a great dinosaur of the ornithopod line that has an acceptable size and could even say medium-large. Enjoy it! Happy All Saints Bridge.

Thanks! I do like the Borealopelta. You're right, it has a nice heft to it. More on it in a bit.

First, a couple pictures that I took a while back when I got my sound strike Sinoceratops and forgot to post. So here's those out of the way:

Sinoceratops and "Sinoceratops".

All of the major Mattel ceratopsians as of earlier this year. I don't have the Zuniceratops, and I don't plan to get it either. Up until now I've been getting at least 1 of every species that Mattel has made, but now I've decided to end that practice and just get the ones that I'm interested in or really like the look of. In the case of the Zuniceratops, owning the Beasts of the Mesozoic version has given me zero interest in getting the Mattel version. They're about the same size, but the BOTM figure is just so much nicer. I'm not hating on the Mattel Zuni though. It's an $8 figure versus a $30 figure, and for what it is, the Mattel Zuniceratops is pretty nice. I would have definitely gotten it if it came out last year.

Okay, enough rambling about Jurassic World toys. Onto the PNSO additions. As I showed in my previous update, I very recently acquired PNSO's Borealopelta, only about a year after its initial release. In that time, I was constantly going back and forth over whether to get the PNSO or CollectA version of the genus. After getting some other CollectA figures over the year and not being too impressed with the detail on some of the smaller ones (again, not hating, you get what you pay for, and for the record, I don't regret getting them), I finally decided to spring for the PNSO, and I'm not disappointed. It does look nicer in hand than some photos online (though not as nice as the promotional pictures from PNSO, but I think we all know that's the case with them).

My Nodosaurid collection is complete for the time being.

Both of my PNSO Ankylosaurs. They look good together. I have no interest in the PNSO Sauropelta, as I'm perfectly happy with the Safari version, but the Pinacosaurus is definitely near the top of my list. I've just felt the asking price is a little high for what you get. The Borealopelta seemed much more worth it.

And here's my whole Ankylosaur collection. The aforementioned PNSO Pinacosaurus is currently the only figure that I'm looking to add to the group.

On their shelf. I'll have to do an update on the entire bookcase at some point.

Well, I was going to add more, but this post got unexpectedly wordy, so I'll save it for next time.

Shonisaurus

My congratulations on your new additions of dinosaurs from Mattel are very pretty ceraptosids.

On the other hand, the borealopelta of PNSO is sublime, I know it from experience since I have it in my collection.

Halichoeres

The PNSO Borealopelta is a really nice figure. So's the Pinacosaurus, and while it is smaller, it also has a more intricate paint job, which in my mind at least justifies the higher cost:size ratio. But also it's literally the only good Pinacosaurus, whereas there are a couple of nice Borealopelta figures, just in smaller scales.
