It's from the Carboniferous of France. I couldn't fit it into the title, but it is just the species that is newly described, not the genus itself. The fossil itself also appears to be well preserved. I find eurypterids pretty fascinating, so I thought this was rather interesting and had to share here.

Seems to be open access: https://www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822(20)31188-X

Here's an image of the fossil from the article:

Here's an image from the article, showing a lovely Carboniferous scene, and where the respiratory structures were found on the fossil:

We need an adelophthalmus pyrrhae from Collecta, Safari or Favorite to give three examples. It is a fabulously interesting creature. Thanks for the article avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin

Dynomikegojira

Interesting I wonder if it's possible that a completely terrestrial eurypterid could have evoled at some point.

I love Eurypterids, so of course I'm happy to hear of a new species. D @Dynomikegojira I'd be interested in finding out that too.

Halichoeres

Imagine being an early tetrapod, thinking you're safe on land from all the terrifying sharks, eurypterids, chimaeras, and demon-tadpoles in the water, and then this thing just shuffles up on the shore and BAM
