I don't recommend anyone go anywhere near The Isle.

It's been in early access for five years and has only gotten worse, content was removed, mod support was removed, the devs keep remaking stuff (this is Allosaurus version 4 and map version 20 something), and the current map is so bad Unreal Engine tries to send notifications that it's too big and won't run properly, low and behold.

Plus, a few months ago one of the devs was found to be a child predator, and the lead dev and PR dev, fully aware the claims were legitimate, tried to quash all of it. Then after it became too big to hide they claimed he was "just a contractor", despite having been very publicly a personal friend of the lead dev for over a decade.

A lead dev by the way who has engaged in everything from bullying his customers, to homophobic and transphobic rants, to bragging that he allegedly once bullied someone to suicide during a development stream. Yes bragging.

These folks and this game are bad news.

If anyone wants to play a dinosaur simulator, I recommend ARK Survival Evolved with some of the "play as dino" mods. They're more fleshed out than this husk of an alpha prototype and you won't be supporting these monsters. There is also Beasts of Bermuda, which is currently unfinished but has a lot of its core game play formats implemented already.

I played for a while. I am not good at games of this kind, especially the combat mechanics of The Isle which confuses me. I just use it purely to appreciate those dinosaurs made by Jacob Baardsee.

I tried to find a dinosaur-themed game with excellent art design and gameplay, but it didn't seem to be an easy task. There are three dinosaur-themed games in my Steam inventory, The Isle, Primal Carnage, and Jurassic World Evolution. Primal Carnage's pictures are a bit dazzling, and some early animal models are also unpleasant. The business model of Jurassic World Evolution soon bored me.
In fact, I am very fond of a game "The Hunter" with modern animals and hunting sports as the theme. I would be very happy if there is a dinosaur theme game of similar quality.
