Yup. Least profitable and least popular film in the franchise, and if I'm being honest, I think the last two JW films have been better. And I hated them, so that's saying something.

I liked the 3rd movie regardless of what a trash site like Screenrant thinks. :)
Don't you hate it when you legitimately compliment someone's mustache and she gets angry with you?

This.

I will always take JP3 over the first JW, though I suppose I enjoyed Fallen Kingdom more.

Add me to the list who enjoys the third movie. Sure the development had a lot of issues with it, and sure some of the reputation it gets is deserved. I think a lot of the hate though has to do with it being the last film in the franchise for over ten years though.

On the other hand I still enjoy watching it, despite the flaws. I suppose I hold a lot of nostalgia from it, as I was only like 10 when it came out. Despite being outdated now, I still thoroughly appreciate the film for putting Spinosaurus in the spotlight as it was the first time I had ever heard of such a magnificent dinosaur (ditto with Disney's Dinosaur with Carnotaurus). And despite the teeth, I still love the coloration and design of the Pteranodon. I also loved how they had them walk quadrupedally. It was such a fresh thing to me at the time, as I was only introduced to it by WWD earlier, and I have no idea how long the science had been around to support it at that point, but it seemed like it was "new" anyways (especially as at the time I only had the making of WWD to go off of). And for the time, giving the raptors round pupils, and the males quills to signify the recent growing body of evidence supporting dromaeosaurids were feathered and bird like was a bold move back then, even if it opened the door to some confusion on the radically different design choices. I also really like how they behaved in cooperation. And of course I could probably go on and on about the beloved JPOG game that it in turn spawned.

I suppose part of that is also due to Sam Neil/Dr. Grant returning, which is one of the biggest reasons I am looking forward to Dominion. Even if the rest of the movie were to be disappointing, I am going to cherish what fleeting moments we have of seeing the three of them again after all this time. Their characters are still a big part of the appeal of the first film after all.

Adding in some scenes from the novel that were left out of the previous two films was nice as well, if at least to see an interpretation of them handled on the big screen for once.

I too am one of the few who love Jurassic park 3 in my adulthood. However, I grew an apreciation for Jurassic world for the fact that I waited my whole Childhood for the sequil to that film to arrive, and the only issues i had with it was the introducton of the Hybrids. That being said I absolutly HATED the Direction Jurassic World:Fallen Kingdom has thrown the franchise in with its Dinosaurs running FREE at the end, and Not to mention the Godawful sins being commited in the upcomeing sixth film.

I gonna be honest with y'all jp3 is the best out of the original series, and every movie after it is/seems to be better than the overrated original

Better in what ways?

Stegotyranno420

No I meant in my opinion.
If you were looking for my opinion, well I don't really got the time to explain, as my battery is running low. Will tell later

I've always enjoyed JP3, and I like it even more now I've read that they seem to have been basically making it up as they went along.

I'm a big fan of the first two movies, since they are childhood memories for me. JP3 however feels really out of sync with anything else in this franchise. At least the last two movies refer to elements of the books, a thing JP3 is completely lacking. It could basically be dismissed being canon I feel.

I've gone back-and-forth with JP3 over the years. Naturally I was a huge fan of Jurassic Park. The Lost World I saw when I was still young enough to be ignorant of its flaws. I think The Lost World is an awful movie now but I have nostalgia for it, and its few classic Spielberg moments prevent me from hating it completely. The trailer sequence, the raptors in the field, the stampede...all great stuff. It at least looks and feels like a Jurassic Park sequel. My biggest gripe with it is how the characters are written. Malcolm and company are the literal bad guys of that movie and we're supposed to be cool with that? Sarah Harding is an absolute wreak of a character.

I was 18 when JP3 came out. I was excited to see it, but then so utterly disappointed in it. To sum up what could be a long story, JP3 basically killed my childhood. It has very few redeeming qualities. The story is weak and lazy, acting sub-par, and the special effects, lighting, and cinematography are such a sad downgrade from the other two movies. I appreciate that they made a practical Spinosaurus, but it looks fake, it looks like it's something from an amusement park ride. Over the years I've tried to give it a fair shake. I've tried to convince myself that it's just a fun monster movie with lots of dinosaur action, but I can't convince myself to like it.

I won't get into Jurassic World and its sequel, I know they're not popular around here but I enjoy them, I enjoy them enough that I'm excited for the next movie. I think they're fun, and I like that they don't repeat the same beats of the first 3 movies.

I would probably rank the movies thusly, but keep in mind that I feel like the only really good movie on here is Jurassic Park.

Jurassic Park
Jurassic World
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park 3

The Lost World will always be my favourite of the first three despite the character flaws and the fact that it was poorly adapted from the books which were far better in that regard.

The first movie will always be a classic and will never get old. As far as JP3 it had its moments here and there but I hate how it represented Isla Sorna. What TLW established was better for the island and there are some inconsistencies imo but then again I am not sure if both movies just took place on opposite sides of the island and if the island itself is that big enough to have the Spinosaurus that separated from any porential T Rex roaming about minus the green one.

JW was a breath of fresh air however and while it isn't aesthesically the same as the first three I did enjoy it despite the T Rex and raptors becoming heroes in that movie.

JW:FK was divisive to me although I did enjoy half of the movie they lost me at the bidding scene. My issue with it is really the fact that just a handful of dinosaurs isn't enough to justify chaos like Malcom explained it. TLW had a better idea with bringing the park to the mainland in which I would've preferred something along those lines of having multiple parks or one massive place to have them roam as they pitched the idea in the movie as well. It's only to give it time for the justification of having things go wrong and suddenly we have hundreds of dinosaurs running around in the modern world.

You know, things always go wrong in Jurassic Park.

Rain

I like dinosaurs but I like good movies better. Sure, "enjoyment" is subjective but acting, pacing, dialogue, cinematography, and many other qualities, aren't. I don't hate any of the Jurassic Park movies but JP3 is definitely one of the weaker ones. Enjoyable? Sure but I don't think it really even compares to the original. Jurassic Park 1 wasn't actually about the dinosaurs where JP3 was pretty much just a dinosaur flick through and through. My ranking would look pretty much the same as Gwangi's

Jurassic Park
Jurassic World
The Lost World
Fallen Kingdom
Jurassic Park 3

With TLW and FK being interchangeable and, again, I don't think JP3 isn't necessarily bad. I even watched it in the theatres  O:-)

Gwangi

It's funny that you mention JW:FK and TLW:JP being interchangeable avatar_Rain @Rain because I feel similarly, I wasn't sure which to put where but ultimately I'm less frustrated by Fallen Kingdom than The Lost World. Fallen Kingdom doesn't take itself too seriously so it's easier for me to dismiss how silly it is. The Lost World wins points for being like Jurassic Park, but also losses points for trying to be like Jurassic Park. It takes itself too seriously and I cannot reconcile that with its flaws.

I also want to say that when it comes to dinosaur movies as a genre, all of the Jurassic Park/World movies are considerably better than the competition. There are very few competent dinosaur movies out there. Jurassic Park is a good dinosaur movie, but it's also just a good movie. Jurassic Park 3 is a good dinosaur movie, but a bad movie. And I love classic dinosaur movies like (surprise, surprise) The Valley of Gwangi, but lets not kid ourselves, dinosaur movies are mostly spectacle with little substance. I've seen Gwangi dozens of times but I still struggle to remember the names of its characters and every scene without dinosaurs is an absolute bore.

Another reason JP3 is the worst film of them all: it contributes absolutely nothing to the overall story. Jurassic Park started everything, The Lost World revealed the secret to the world, and Jurassic World and Fallen Kingdom have continued to build on that. But you could erase JP3 from existence completely and nothing and no one would be lesser for it.

It was a wholly pointless film.

I think the third JP film is fairly typical of film series franchises, where the arc is the first two good or excellent, but with a rapid decline thereafter.

It reminds me a bit of Escape from the Planet of the Apes in that regard, which was also the third in its series. This was a competent film, well acted and watchable, but sci-fi classic like the first? No chance!

I saw JP3 when it came out and enjoyed it for what it was, but let's face it, it's an average film and has none of Spielberg's masterly suspense in the first two. It's a couple of leagues down from them .

GojiraGuy1954

Literally the only reason JP3 gets as much hate as it does is that fight
Shrek 4 is an underrated masterpiece

MLMjp

I think the best way to define JP3 is "the spin-off who wanted to be a main film".

This is my biggest problem with JP3 as well. Not the T. Rex vs. Spinosaurus fight, not Alan Grants dream with Billy being a Raptor, but the fact that the movie could be disregarded from the JP/JW story and it wouldn't change anything.

Maybe Alan Grants return in Dominion could change this. But that would be a little too late to save JP3 as a standalone movie.
