Yeah I'm a little disappointed we didn't get at least a counter or something for the raptor to stand on or for the kids to hide behind. At least the background is really nice, and I guess the real prize of the set is finally a figure of Lex, and again isn't a SDCC exclusive at least. Also yeah would have preferred the ladle the raptor licks at, just because I always thought that was a bit silly despite the tension of the scene, even since I was a kid. Guess I'll need to hunt down some separate accessories to really accomplish that scene.

The Beyond the Gates video had Phil Tippet as the guest, which I guess was no surprise to me as I was already familiar with his work on the scene with his go-motion work. Still really cool seeing it again. His work on the T. rex escape sequence is also worth a watch too. And of course the short film Prehistoric Beast.

Think this is worth a new post then a typical edit.

My friend in Germany sent me this listing of the Dreadnoughtus. Another Legacy Collection figure. I guess its the least risky method for retailers to carry such a large toy.

At least Europe has an option for it.  Target will have it I guess. Walmart is carrying the Brachiosaurus  repaint this year so wider release is possible.   With a higher cost I assume it's bigger than the Apatosaurus?

Faelrin

In the image of it before it was taken down, it looked to be about between the size of the Brachiosaurus and the Apatosaurus, and what helped was that the Brachiosaurus was next to it, though that may be due to it having its neck lower down. Might be on the shorter side as well.

Here are some instagram screencaps I took on my phone before the respective posts/images were deleted or hidden:

Blade-of-the-Moon

looks like it should be closer to the brachiosaurus in design with that long thinner neck? it looks pretty thick in that picture though?

Welp, I just found the Owen & Velociraptor "Beta" (really, juvenile "Blue") story pack at Fred Meyer and picked it up. I personally hadn't seen this one announced yet, so that was a nice surprise!

This Owen is a slight variant of his figure from the ATV & Dracorex set. His jeans here have texturing to make them look more like denim.

Distribution with this line is so wacky. This story pack is the first new item I've seen since Christmas. There were two of them sitting next to a row of the Yaz & Blue story pack. I've only seen Yaz & Blue, Darius & Galli, and this story pack. Wanted the Kenji pack. Still never seen Ouranosaurus or the Shringasaurus wave, but now I've already found one new Dominion item on the shelf.

I'm still dying to know just what this theropod is supposed to be.

Looks like a Monolophosaurus to me.

No, the head is far too large and the arms are too small with only two digits. Besides, why would Mattel radically alter their existing Monolophosaurus design?

It has feathers so I'm thinking it might be Yutyrannus. Maybe Nanuqsaurus?

Is there any other information to go along with this photo? I'm most fascinated at how there also seems to be a mystery human figure silhouetted in the driver's seat of the packaging. Can anyone confirm? I haven't seen this discussed anywhere, but seems kind of cool if a 3.75" human figure is also included with these particular mini sets! If so, I wonder who the characters could be? Maybe variants of main characters?

Edit: taking a closer look at the box seems to confirm that yes you get 4 dinos and 1 human, cool.

Now that I think of it, that toy probably is Nanuqsaurus. I think Mattel may now boast the most tyrannosaurs of any company.

What about Gualicho? Was also previously thought to have small two digits hands, and also lacks the skull like Gasosaurus so open for interpretation. It also has had a messy classification.

Mattel makes mistakes but I don't think they would give Rugops 2 fingers. Feathers for Rugops seems an unlikely choice too.

Faelrin

avatar_GojiraGuy1954 @GojiraGuy1954 Sorry to hear you got covid. I hope you can recover swiftly. To answer your question, we have not gotten a Rugops yet.

I would also be disappointed if this is a Rugops. Just everything about it is off in some way, and I'm pretty tolerant of things not being accurate in this line. Looks more like a hybrid. That said with the other two abelisaurs in the line it wouldn't shock me. For now "strange creature" definitely sums it up, lol.

Honestly though there hasn't been too many additional/not canon species I have interest in this time around. I think the only I really want is the Dsungaripterus, since it looks mostly decent, and we haven't gotten any new pterosaur species in the line since 2019. Plus it's in JWE2 now (well for those with the Early Cretaceous DLC). Strangely the Moros is also growing on me even with my initial disappointment that it isn't film accurate. Granted it must have been in the works early on since it was leaked as far back as late 2020 if I recall right. I feel like it wouldn't be too out of place next to the Alioramus. Still I hope we can get a film canon one down the line. Also shocked there isn't an Oviraptor, or Lystrosaurus in the works (aside from that mini). Wish they focused on those first and not the non canon species. Also disappointed that we also still don't have a Corythosaurus either.
