If you were to make a version of chess with dinosaur inspired pieces, how will you utilize that idea? You can change rules, placement and moves if you want
My Basic Version based on Classic/Generic dinosaurs
King:Tyrannosaurus
Queen: Brontosaurus
Rook: Triceratops
Bishop: Stegosaurus
Knight: Parasaurolophus
Pawn: Pachycephalosaurus

Duna

That's a nice idea ...  ^-^

I would use two large theropods for queen and king. Probably tyrannosaurus and giganotosaurus. Any hadrosaur as knight.

I really like the Jurassic Park chess:

Newt

How about a North American Maastrichtian set?

Rook - a fortified tower - Ankylosaurus
Bishop - long-range attack, funny hat - Quetzalcoatlus
Knight - short-range vanguard - Pachycephalosaurus
Queen - unstoppable attacker, fancy headgear - Triceratops
King - Tyrannosaurus (obviously)

Or a Pierre Shale set?

Rook - Archelon
Bishop - Elasmosaurus
Knight - Cretoxyrhina
Queen - Pteranodon
King - Tylosaurus

The pawns could be various smaller animals, there's no reason they have to all be identical. Small dinosaurs, crocs, turtles, mammals, etc. for terrestrial sets, fishes, turtles, ammonites, etc. for marine sets.

I like chess and I strongly considered getting this Jurassic Park set a few years back, but the reviews were quite bad, so I didn't. Apparently the pieces are cheaply made.

Also, I would surely forget which pieces were which!

That's a good appreciation, my liking has quite vanished. In fact I liked the box the most. But I thought the figures would be as nice as the small diecast ones which I absolutely love.

Halichoeres

A trilobite chess set.

King: Walliserops
Queen: Terataspis
Bishops: Psychopyge
Knights: Dicranurus
Rooks: Telephinus
Pawns: Agnostus

Although I do not have any idea by myself I find this is a very interesting thought experiment.

Going with the crustacean(ish) theme, couldn't the pawns be prawns?  :))

OK but the bishop should be Prototaxites
