REBOR 1:11±1 dire wolf "Low Roar" in progress

Flaffy

I hope Rebor won't reconstruct it as just "grey wolf but big". Dire wolves are placed in an entirely separate genus from Canis now, Aenocyon dirus.

avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy They did respond to some questions on instagram saying they wouldn't.

QuoteThat's the goal, they'll look nothing like modern wolves.

That said I do hope a variant has a reddish coat like a Dhole, like what has been starting to pop up in paleo-art lately. I'm also wondering if the fur will be hand sculpted, like the Smilodon, since they did a good job with it.

I'm just glad someone has finally decided to pay attention to it (unless we get lucky with Safari Ltd for this year), since it is one of my favorite prehistoric mammalian carnivores. It's nice to have it roughly in scale with their Smilodon as well.

Also comparing it with skeletal reconstructions, it does look pretty well proportioned too. Maybe the rib cage could be deeper, but I think they got it pretty close.

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin Thanks for the info!

Glad that they're steering clear of that trope. But I wouldn't be surprised if one of the paint variants is based off a grey wolf.

I still find Rebor's non-dinosaur offerings much more interesting than their dinosaur ones. (and still waiting on "Lonesome George"...)

Shonisaurus

Rebor's dire wolf project is fabulous, I like that Rebor also focuses on prehistoric mammals in this case from the late Cenozoic, Holocene times, although I would like Rebor to make more exotic and rare prehistoric mammals on the market for toy dinosaurs or rarer ones such as uintatherium, arsinoitherium, paraceratherium, barburofelis, toxodon or machairodus although fortunately some of those mentioned are very well represented.

That terrible wolf by the way, will he come with interchangeable heads? I would like Rebor to be animals to make interchangeable bodies, that is, a more static one suitable for heads with closed jaws and another dynamic or highly dynamic one suitable for the head that shows the fangs. It would be great if Rebor would perk up over time.

Carnoking

Whereas it's not something I personally put a lot of stock in, it's nice to see REBOR continue to diversify

I'm really excited to finally have a figure of the Dire Wolf. I never really considered any of Rebor's products until this and the Smilodon.

Coloration wip:

I really like it already. Giving me a mix of maned wolf, and African wild dog vibes, and helps to differentiate it from the grey wolf, despite its similar morphology (although still some key differences).

Man those pics I added recently got wiped fast. Guess that's what I get with being lazy on re-uploading them to imgur (which I'll do for the ones below, and will have to go back and fix the ones above). Anyways, some more progress on the Dire Wolf, and alternate heads. Apparently the musician (or band member? not familiar with their work honestly) that Rebor is naming this figure after passed away recently. They revealed two new head sculpts of it, perhaps as tribute to their work?

I think the hell hound one is very cool though. Gives me ghost rider like vibes. Also a great use of the skull sculpt they created while working on the more accurate version. The fantasy one is surely based more off of Game of Thrones, etc I imagine.

While I did like the coloration for the previous version, I do think this is a good improvement. What do you all think?

Edit: Alright the images in my previous recent responses are fixed now. So at least this thread isn't completely devoid of working images now after FB breaks them.

Edit 2: For posterity here's the older wip images (not in my responses above):

Blade-of-the-Moon

Rebor posted a couple updated pics

REBOR 1:11±1 Aeoncyon dirus "Low Roar" Plain Ver. Deluxe Pack
REBOR 1:11±1 or 1:18 mount Dire Wolf: Fantasy "Havallagata" Nord Ver. Deluxe Pack

Do I really need to buy six models to make a pack though...

CityRaptor

Buy two, customize the neck joint and make a cerberus.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Being a canid enthusiast this is exciting. From my perspective they did a good job replicating what we currently understand of their looks. They made the muzzle depth and robust musculature of the head (especially the masseter muscles) stand out which is an important distinction. My only critique is that they could have added some bulk to the temporals to make the head more square. The coloration is nice, if a bit hyena like. I can't wait to see the body!

The hell hound idea is very creative, and the other piece is very WOW direwolf inspired.

Overall, a very nice addition for an extinct mammal!

Faelrin

I hope this means they will be going up for pre-order soon. Been anticipating this for quite a while now, like all year I think. Scale seems like it will work with my Neca American Werewolf figure quite well (and also the Furay Planet William I'm waiting on), and pretty much anything else around 1/12 scale (including Rebor's former Smilodon).
