Quote from: Carnoking on November 02, 2024, 01:28:49 AMThis may have been addressed elsewhere and it's off topic to this particular thread but is there really no chance of resurgence for Vitae? Stranger things have certainly happened. Look at PNSO, they seemed to disappear for years and now they're one of the premier model production companies on the market.

Unlikely I'd say. Cheung Chung Tat has moved to the UK now I believe. And his business partner deals more with real fossils than reconstruction work.

Quote from: Flaffy on November 02, 2024, 12:51:15 AMWe have Rebor to (partially) thank for these Vitae prototypes never seeing the light of day. ::) Every time I'm tempted to get a Rebor model, I'm reminded of their piss poor behaviour.

I was not aware of this story that led to the destruction of Vitae. So many interesting figures, even quite many marine creatures.

From what I read the motivation for Rebor to destroy Vitae was not even competition. Vitae produced accurate dinosaur figures while Rebor largely produces movie monsters.

The motivation was apparently that the Rebor guy wanted to take revenge on that factory owner. And he would be ready for any collateral damage he would cause.

This is the mindset of gangs and organized crime. When they blow up some shop they do not care if this kills or injures people in that shop that have nothing to do with their revenge.

It's even more upsetting to think that Rebor would have set about sabotaging Eofauna as well if they hadn't done what they wanted them to. Even if we fully accept Rebor's claim that the factory in question did them wrong, it didn't make it right for them to ruin Vitae's standing with stores, thus spelling their demise. I'm obviously no fan of Rebor, never have been, and never will be, but I've never emailed ED or Dan's Dinosaurs or MiniZoo and asked them to stop stocking Rebor products because they behave badly. That's just not cricket.

A common denominator with such characters is that they lack a sense of remorse and typically find some excuse to justify their behavior.  The loss of Vitae for the collecting community is a real one. But, to my way of thinking, Rebor itself is becoming a sort of collateral damage, due to its own dysfunctional mindset.

Nehalennia

Rebor just released new images of their Beelzebufo on Instagram and it looks stunning. Lots of articulation as well!

I just checked, they look fantastic!! I think I'll have to get both!

Blade-of-the-Moon

It does look good.  Not sure which version I'd prefer, both are plausible looks like.  I still wish it came with a dino food item.

I am not interested in a frog but i must admit it looks fantastic. I wish we had Giga & Spino.

I've lost hope on the Giga and spino being produced. I would have loved a spinosaurus with an articulated jaw and bendable tail.

The "horned" variant is a made up species by the looks of it. I prefer the prehistoric planet colored one! I'm not thrilled with their business practices but I committed to buying one long ago so I think I still will.

Nehalennia

For everyone to see:

Such a hard choice, they both look amazing. The articulation is such a pleasant surprise as well.

Carnoking

Absolutely losing my mind over this fat little beast

Gwangi

I like Goo Goo doll better. Little Feet just looks like any old horned frog. Still a lovely model though. I might actually have to buy a Rebor model!

I too am partial to the Prehistoric Planet color scheme but I'm glad they went the extra mile and did a separate sculpt for the alternative color scheme. Did I read somewhere that the horned frogs are the closest living relatives of Beezlebufo? Or is that analogous to saying chickens are the closest living relatives of T. rex?

Flaffy

1:2 scale is quite big. I wonder how much it'll cost.

Pliosaurking

Both look great, but I think I'm more inclined to the Prehistoric Planet version.

Torvosaurus

The horned version is a take off the South American horned frogs, genus Ceratophrys, particularly the Suriname horned frog, even somewhat matching the color. It's nice, but I like the goo goo doll version better.

I've never heard that horned frogs were the closest living species to Beezlebufo, I'll hafta look it up.

Jorgesaurus

Does anyone know if Rebor will make the Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus with lips that they had already revealed the render of some time ago? :-\

Did a quick google search, seems like a lot of artists did the horned design.  The other was mostly a Prehistoric Planet design?

Excerpt from wikipedia:

"Within the superfamily Hyloidea, the definitive phylogenetic position of Beelzebufo is uncertain.[6][7] While initially placed as a member of the family Ceratophryidae,[1] a 2018 study suggested that Beelzebufo, and other extinct frogs with ceratophryid-like traits such as Baurubatrachus, were instead part of a more ancient group of Neobatrachia, distantly related to horned frogs.[8] A 2022 study recovered Baurubatrachus and Beelzebufo as sister genera, with the clade formed by the two genera in turn being the sister clade to extant Ceratophyridae.[6] A 2023 phylogenetic study instead recovered Beelzebufo as a sister taxon of the hylid Ranoidea australis.[7]"
