Mini figure discussion

I've decided that from now on I want to have figures in my collection roughly to scale.  What that means is having small figures of small animals, large figures of large animals, very large figures of very large animals (e.g. Papo Apatosaurus, PNSO 2023 Spinosaurus), etc..  So I'm interested in mini figures of small species and I thought it would be good to have a thread where we can talk about mini figures.

To start with, I'd like to know if the Captivz 30th anniversary Compsognathus has the silver(?) marking that is found on other Captivz figures?  I asked about this under avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi's review of the figure, but it might have been missed as I haven't got a reply.

I must have missed that comment but yes, it has the silver marking. All the Captivz dinosaurs do, to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi!  Where is the silver marking on the Compsognathus?  I'm thinking I might be able to cover it up with paint..

Thank you for starting this thread! I have been wanting the same thing and contemplating starting a similar thread.
So what scale are you wanting to stick with? I assume 1:35th?

I was also doing some digging on some of the older pnso minis to see if any figures happened to fall in 1:35 range but I couldn't any so far.

Also I have recently created and been maintaining an excel sheet of models being released with the main purpose of it being a reference sheet to what figures fall well into certain scales. It's a pretty new project that mostly just includes pnso and Haolonggood figures right now. But if it's something that interests any body else I open to sharing it.

I've been working on making a thread about minis as well and I have compiled a list of just about every mini I can find. If you need that reference I can provide it for smaller genera although I am saving the whole thing for a personal collection thread.

avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi I think I see the marking on the Compsognathus now, on its chest.  It blended in with the white wash on the underside of the figure well which made me not notice it at first.

The scale I'm focusing on is 1:35.  I can accept figures in a smaller scale if they are large enough to scale well with my other figures, e.g. the Papo Apatosaurus is 1:40 scale for an adult but it's still larger than all my 1:35 figures.  I also accept figures in a larger scale if they are small figures of small species that don't look out of place next to my other figures.
I recommend looking into Kaiyodo figures.  They are high quality and a number of them are small species at or around 1:35 scale. avatar_brettnj @brettnj can help you find them at the best prices.

Does your list contain the scale of each mini figure?  If it does I would be interested in seeing it!

It is on the chest. Barely noticeable in side profile.

I would be very interested in that, as a strict 1:35 collector!

I still need to measure most of them so there are some. It's structured similarly to you good mesozoic figure thread or halichoere's best of every genus thread

Well, I look forward to seeing it when you post it!

Please do let me know when you post it, cause such a list would be incredibly useful to me!

I would like to say why I've decided to collect figures with sizes consistent with the real animals.  I've enjoyed having large figures of small animals, but now I'm at a point where I get pleasure and a better ability to imagine the real animal from figures when they are small if of a small animal, large if they are of a large animal, etc..  I already have a number of small figures of small animals, but I'm hoping for more good ones from figure companies.  I'm looking forward to Safari's new toobs and I hope Haolonggood will make sets of small figures at some point..

Sim

Also, not having large figures of small animals will give me more space for figures.  So this change will be good for me due to that too.  On that note, I'm considering only having one figure per species (not genus, species).  That will give me more space too, although Haolonggood makes it difficult to pick only one colour scheme out of the two for their species.  But I'm teling myself I don't need more than one of a figure...

I'm a bit sad about parting with my large figures of small animals, but it's for the best and I'm hopeful they will find good new homes!

crazy8wizard

Are there any small genera you want me to mention first? You and DefinitelyNOTdilo were interested in the 1:35th scale minis but the thread I'm working on covered a vast range of scale sizes.

Sim

I'm okay with waiting for the whole thing, thanks.

I'd be fine waiting but I'd also love a peak at the 1:35 models!

Halichoeres

I've spent a lot of time hunting 1:35 or 1:40 scale versions of small animals and it's kind of a bummer how few there are. And of course many of the most interesting animals are too small to make 1:35, like half of all pterosaurs.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

Paleokhris makes incredible models if you don't mind paying a tad extra! I've bought 1:35 models of Postosuchus, Coelophysis & Deinonychus from him so far! He's got a fantastic selection! From Permian Therapsids to Dinosaurs to Cenozoic mammals!

You will have to either paint them yourself or hire a professional painter though.

I've decided to get some Jurassic World mini figures to have some smallish species.  I haven't kept up with Jurassic World figures, so I'd appreciate help!  How many versions of the Mattel Jurassic World mini Kaprosuchus and Stygimoloch are there?  From my searching online it seems to me that there is only one kind of Kaprosuchus, while the Stygimoloch exists as both an articulated figure and a non-articulated figure.  Is that right?

I got some models from him and I agree that they are very nice. Drawbacks are that his print quality is not the best and shipping is quite expensive. Dinosauria Creatures has much better print quality, but unfortunately they are currently not able to license his models.
