Quote from: GnastyGnorc on January 18, 2025, 01:02:12 AMThere is a few more that I might get for the same treatment but mostly I am holding off for lipped theropods from whatever company starts giving us them.

Yeah you'll probably be lucky.

Personally, I'm not into these modified figures commissions. Like had I gotten PNSO's Megalosaurus upon release and commissioned lips added to it (and AFAIK this treatment is not cheap), I would've been so annoyed, because Safari ended up making their own lipped Megalosaurus. So the lips commission would've been in vain. Not only that, but I prefer the colors on Safari's take too.

So with dinosaurs (and especially theropods), if you don't like a certain version of a given dinosaur (from a relatively popular group, good luck waiting for, IDK, basal ornithischians), it'd be smarter to just sit and wait, IMO.
In general and financially, this makes a lot of sense. The qualifier is patience (not always easy, for sure).

Whoever is in financial charge of PNSO should outrightly fire this new CEO. The dinosaur figures have been the flagship products of PNSO and have largely contributed to the good reputation of the company.

If, and I mean IF this is a harbinger of the future for PNSO, it makes the prospects somewhat dim for the New Year, given that they don't even know WHAT products are forthcoming for this year. If this is indeed the case, I may recant and reverse my decision not to buy the Baryonyx , Camarasurus and Wuerhosaurus and spring for those three, sooner rather than later.

Sim

Well, I think that would explain why PNSO hasn't made Taurovenator yet :P  Seriously though, I hope this CEO would be dismissed, they are clearly there only for money and don't share the passion that makes PNSO great!

Why are CEO's always so out of touch?

ARGDino

This is sad news to hear, I just got back into dinosaurs after over a decade and thought PNSO would be the best ones to collect...but they're expensive, not always up to date with currently accepted paleontological findings (lips), etc...should I just swap to HLG? :(

I think many of us make our decisions per model. You can find many reviews here or internet about for each model , each brand.

Overall, i think many of us still find PNSO has more consistency of quality, artistry and accuracy over Haolonggood.

However Haolonggood has some advantages too. Color variants , 1:35 large sauropods.

I think prices are justified for both company when you compare models to each other.

Personally i compare them before buying.  How much i like the model, species or the price helps my final decision.

For example i paid extra gladly latest PNSO edmontosaurus & camarasaurus over Haolonggood versions. They are very important dinosaurs for me. Lokiceratops however, as great model as it is, i decided to buy Utahceratops with Chasmosaurus (or Kosmoceratops) for such price.

If you prefer Theropods PNSO is simply better.  Majority of their theropods sculpted before  scientific paper for lips existence so who knows maybe they'll do with lips from now on. Also their Majungasaurus & Saurophaganax (or Allosaurus Anax now) are lipped.

Their figures are fantastic, but despite all my reading of reviews and watching them I still don't know which ones are considered the best for accuracy. With them being as expensive as they are, I can only afford to buy so many.

Did they really make a Majunasaurus though? I must have missed it if they did (I know HLG recently released one).

Sim

PNSO made a mini Majungasaurus years ago, but I'm sure Turkeysaurus meant Yangchuanosaurus.  Which figures would you like to know the accuracy of?

The youtube channel DinosDragons is my go to review for PNSO and Haolonggood figures. Watching his reviews should give you a good sense of how accurate a figure is then you can decide if it meets your own criteria.

PNSO is still my preferred company overall.

Some of their standout figures for me in terms of accuracy and aesthetics are:
Lokiceratops
Edmontosaurus
Camarasaurus
Deinocheirus
Helicoprion
Saurophaganax (Works great for Allosaurus fragilis)
Olorotitan
Suchomimus
Gorgosaurus (no lips but other than that a great figure that can work for both Albertosaurus or gorgosaurus)

If this devolves in a negative way, as may be indicated in this communication, then I strongly doubt that PNSO will go back and 'lip' their Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus, Lythronax and Daspletosaurus. Maybe even not their rex Cameron. Likely I'm being more than a bit pessimistic. But, wow, am I glad that I went and spent a few bucks to get lips put on all five of these tyrannosaurids (Bravo Models).

I keep seeing people talking about how they've managed to "fix" their lipless theropods, do you happen to have any pictures? I love all of PNSO's carcharodontosaurids but they never gave a single one lips.

Remind me again - does the PNSO Saurophaganax fit the size estimates for A. fragilis in 1:35 scale?

It is technically a little too big for 1:35 allosaurus fragilis. If I recall correctly it's more around 1:32. But it is very possible that there were some individuals of A. Fragilis that got that big. And we know there were some extra large allosaurus species like A. anax

These are all jaw-dropping! They really look like they came that way right out of the factory! I'm assuming the process to get said lips applied to a figure is time consuming and/or expensive, but man don't it look great!

Very disappointed by this bad news. I thought that in a country like China, where capitalism is still largely state-controlled, a structure like PNSO would be fairly stable. If China had the will to shine in the world in the field of science and paleontology too, then it would have continued to release figurines and other dinosaur products. It's a pity, because as has already been said, PNSO is still my favorite brand and produces, overall, the best figurines.

I'm therefore going to pin my hopes on other, more confidential brands like Showana studio, which will be releasing its PVC scotty T rex and which could revolutionize the quality of PVC figurine production at under $100, but I can't see them launching 10 figurines a year :(

Carnoking

If true, this is incredibly disappointing news, not only for the fact that new figures might not be forthcoming but that Zhao Chuang has to deal with his art being stolen
