Those are good images, though doesn't really give a better idea if the rex is lipped or not.

Quote from: DavidJamesArmsby on December 30, 2024, 11:21:49 PMPapo was responsible for getting me into collecting dinosaur models, and it feels so good to be excited for Papo models again.
I've always loved dino toys, but Papo was the one that got me to buy something other than Kenner Jurassic Park toys.  Saw the Papo Allosaurus and needed it.  Been kinda on a hiatus from them since the Spinosaurus and have been kinda irritated that some of my favorite species have good models but terrible poses(Dilophosaurus and Acrocanthosaurus).  This rex?  Looks really nice.  And doesn't look like a Tyrannosaurus/Vastatosaurus hybrid like the running rex.
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Weird aracheopteryx was retired after beign rereleased 2 years ago along with the coelodonta
Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And unto this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

avatar_Shadowknight1 @Shadowknight1, have you seen the PNSO Acrocanthosaurus and Haolonggood Dilophosaurus?  I think they're excellent and they're not in strange poses.

Again, I'm sad the feathered Velociraptor was retired, while the JP style Velociraptor is still in production, with its bad teeth and lame pose.  I'm sad the Apatosaurus is retired as well, it's excellent and the best figure of this genus.

Best figure of this genus

Have you seen the Haolonggood figure?

Got to agree with avatar_Sim @Sim on this point. It's good to have a certain diversity of poses for one's dinos, especially when used in dioramas of one sort or another.

I had the Haolonggood Apatosaurus and it's good, but I replaced it with Papo's as I didn't like the head on Haolonggood's and that Haolonggood's doesn't have a tail whip.

SidB

I have both and I intend to keep the Papo as well as the HLG. But I'm going to get the position of the external names corrected on the Papo figure to bring it onto line with current thinking. Otherwise, it makes a great subadult.

In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

These look fantastic! I can see myself getting all of these

I'd probably buy them all. They need to get some released already though.

Everything Dinosaur has posted that the Papo Dilophosaurus, Cryolophosaurus, Pentaceratops and Concavenator are retired.  I'm surprised, I thought they were popular, with the exception of the Concavenator which might have the quickest retirement of any figure.

Well, it had to happen, the way of all plastic flesh. Glad that I have them all then. No surprise with the Concavenator, but I am a bit with the Pentaceratops.

They were quick to bury that Concavenator.

I kind of doubt that there were too many mourners at the interment.

Ha! I'm actually almost tempted to pick one up given its truncated shelf life but I doubt I'll live to regret never having that thing darken my shelves.

Yeah, Andy basically got it right when he called the Concavenator "pretty much the worst figure Papo ever made" and "an abomination" (though I might suggest a couple of others as candidates for these appellations). But, like him, I agree that the Pentaceratops' retirement is surprising. Were sales that poor? That would be a bit surprising too, but then, I can't know. Better grab one while you can.

Sim

I'm surprised that the Papo Pentaceratops, Cryolophosaurus, Dilophosaurus, feathered Velociraptor and Apatosaurus are all retired while rubbish like the Papo Amargasaurus, Protoceratops, Polacanthus, Plesiosaurus and Tylosaurus remain in production.  Maybe I shouldn't be very surprised since Schleich's equally poor prehistoric animals apparently sell well enough to keep producing them.

Joliezac

I don't have the dilophosaurus or cryolophosaurus. I may have to pick them up. So sad to see the Pentaceratops retire, I adore that model.

I think that we are living in a quite privileged space here on the DTF/DTB, where we have ready access to a wealth of the most advanced and nuanced information, and know better than to rate some of these absurd interpretations that Papo and especially Schleich has produced too highly. We are very much less vulnerable to the advertising and outlandish claims, particularly of the latter company, that push forward these distorted creations as real animals. Admittedly, some interpretations were valid or semi-valid in the context of previous generations, but these so-called paleoartists of Schleich and often Papo are caught in their own temporal bubble, one that they seem loath to leave.
