Beautiful colours. But I probably really don't need another Tyrannosaurus. I'm looking forward to seeing what they will release next, now all the Tyrannosaurus drama of will it/won't it is (nearly) over!

I'm as underwhelmed by this as by Eofauna's Rex. The lower jaw is a chicken leg?

I was wondering the same thing, it is weird to have a lipped lower jaw and the upper lipless.
The lower jaw looks too narrow to have "pockets" for the upper teeth (?).
A closed mouth picture is needed as soon as possible.

Quote from: Sim on April 08, 2025, 07:38:41 AMI too am keen on getting past the Tyrannosaurus and Giganotosaurus. I find them uninteresting. If this Tyrannosaurus does lack lips, a reason for why could be obtained from the development of Haolonggood's first Tyrannosaurus. They received feedback to make the teeth more prominent and made it so on their first Tyrannosaurus. Perhaps in China the teeth being so visible on Tyrannosaurus is preferred.

I remember a comment from VampireDesign from HLG, stating that there is pressure from China people who love lipless.
That would explain why the most iconic species got figures with visible teeth and the others not.

Well now that I got Dinosaur_Model_Artwork to make le lips on figure, that isn't an issue anymore.

The coloration of this figure is a breath of fresh air compared to other T. rex figures, but next to their Triceratops this figure lacks a certain amount of presence I feel. That's mainly because how lean this figure looks especially compared to T. rex figures from other brands.

The headsculpt and how lean this figure looks give this figure a bit of a nineties vibe. Also the pose reminds me a bit of PNSO's Albertosaurus. My image of T. rex isn't that of an animal that is able to actually be running the way this figure is.

All in all I don't think I'll need this figure. If it had lips it would be a bit more interesting to me, but still not enough I think.
But today, I'm just being father

Yes this figure is a bit retro to me, not too retro but feels 90 to 2000 vibes.
The price sure is attractive though !

Sculpture is shrinkwrapped and obviously lipless.

It's shame because problems are not from skill or budget issues.

I'd say more early 2010s look than 90's.

Well, that settles it - lipless. I was holding out a faint hope for half-lipped, but this is definitely what we get. Not for the DTF lipped crowd for sure. Definitely somewhat disappointed, though if I really wanted it lipped I could send it to Bravo Models. What with my lipped Cameron and Andrea pair, plus my Eofauna Sue, I don't think that its worth the expense to buy it and get it altered. Plus, my Showanna order will be landing soon from Lana.

I do like it, the colors are nice (but why no green? ???). I can get pass a theropod figure without lips as long as there isn't another good alternative for that species, but in this case, Tyrannosaurus rex has so many figures that I have to be more strict and demanding when a new one comes out, and that applies here. If the figure had lips, it would have been a home run. I don't understand why Haolongood didn't give it lips.

And now I am scared that they will do the same for the Giganotosaurus.

Oh well, I'm glad I have a newfound apreciation for my BOTM 1/35 Tyrannosaurus rex... I kinda neglected it ever since I got it, most likley due to being too focused on Jurassic World toys.

In a vacuum, I think it's a fantastic figure.

In light of all the competition inherent in producing a T. rex model, and even regarding some of HLG's past work, it's only decent enough but not something I'm particularly keen to pick up. The lack of lips, large scales and proportions are all crippling design choices in my book.

At least the price isn't terrible, and I'm sure that during a decent sale I could be tempted.

This may have been a stellar alternative to PNSO's Winter Wilson, if they were released at the same time. But alas, HLG is a few years too late.

If it's true the Chinese audience still want a lipless look, then I hope HLG makes as much money as they can.

But otherwise, I'll give this a miss, sadly. Was really rooting for HLG this time.

Eofauna's lipped Rex is still the leading option for me - at least until PNSO releases theirs.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to pass. A few years ago, this toy would have had me head over heels, but the absence of lips effectively kills my enthusiasm. The upcoming Papo version also doesn't appear to have lips, but it's flamboyantly and unabashedly feathery, so it'll be fun to display and to review.

Fingers crossed for PNSO. And in the mean time, there is of course Eofauna.

Actually, this would perfectly depict my perplexity right now in regards with the new rexy :

I'm more disappointed in only 2 color schemes rather than it not being lipped. The price is very tempting but I think I may skip out on this one, especially since I have the Rebor repaint on preorder. I really was excited for those previous color schemes shown. Seeing the rex next to the Triceratops, the latter is still much better in my opinion.

Gwangi

I never thought would turn down a HLG Tyrannosaurus in favor of one by Recur, but here we are.  :*D

The lips thing is never a dealbreaker for me but this T. rex is definitely a 90's throwback in many respects. I like a 90's style T. rex but that flavor of T. rex is already well represented in my collection by actual T. rex figures from around that decade (Battat, Carnegie, SEGA, etc.). The only thing that makes Haolonggood's hard to turn down are the superb paintjobs, in that department these are some of the best Tyrannosaurus figures ever made.

Rayeknor

Still prefer Eofauna and Rebor over this. If Eofauna had Rebor's production quality they would be close to perfect, as for me personally I think the best rex on the market is Rebor's kiss still.

This is not a bad figure but it seems outdated before even avilable.

This feels like missing a lotto by a number.

Well, let's hope Giganotosaurus will have more modern look.

I prefer Showanna Scotty over HLG. Showanna will also have Stan which looks even better than Scotty imo. Unfortunately like PNSO they seem to be obsessed with brown so i wouldn't be suprised if Stan will end up with same colors with Scotty.
