Fragmentary basis or not, this is a lovely looking figure! Although Im not as excited to see the return of the museum line...

Closer inspection shows that this Hongkongsaurus figure has pronounced thumb claws.

So I think this would make it even a better substitute for Diamantinasaurus matildae, which reportedly has (unlike many derived titanosaurus) thumb claws.

In any case this is a beautiful sauropod figure.

I have to say that the last two years have been a real feast for sauropod enthusiasts like myself with so many good figures from both PNSO and Haolonggood.

Who would have thought that this would be possible like 3 years ago?

Indeed. Based on the text, the general bauplan is based on Huanghetitan, while the head specifically was referenced after Diamantinasaurus. PNSO also recognises and admits that this figure is basically a fun thought project for the first Hong Kong dinosaur, rather than a rigorous scientific figure. They also specifically mention that the piece is meant to commemorate the 28th anniversary of HK's handover to China, so the naming is no coincidence.

I wonder if it could be used as a Diamantinasaurus then. Could it scale with Australian Age of Dinosaurs' Banjo figure?

given that most of these exclusives have become available I'm hoping the same will happen with this one its really nice and I would just us it as a substitute for another species

"Return". Pair that with Hong Kong and one probably could connect the dots. July's coming up afterall.

Thank you, the implication of that name is pretty obvious.

The fact that PNSO has selected a name with a clear political message tells me that PNSO must have very good connections so to speak.

I have drawn that conclusion already from some of the calendar sheets on their Instagram account.

PNSO have state funding, so yes.

Patriotism of any sort always makes me cringe, but Sinopliosaurus 2: Sinoplio harder is a really nice figure. Might eventually end up getting it down the line in the vague future where I actually start acquiring PNSO figures instead of just daydreaming about them.

Fingers crossed the new sauropod ends up overseas, I love the design and it would make a great standin for Nemegtosaurus imo

This is genuinely one of the nicest looking sauropod models I've ever seen. I really wish Haolonggood would pose their sauropods more like this. The differences are subtle but this has so much more life to it.

But holy heck, I think that nickname flash-banged me. It took me a full 30 seconds to recover.
And I hate that the Museum Line is returning, too. I want to love you, PNSO. Why make it so hard? XD

GojiraGuy1954

This is the most Haolonggood that a PNSO figure has ever looked
Shrek 4 is an underrated masterpiece

Baryonyx

avatar_GojiraGuy1954 @GojiraGuy1954 paint wise yeah but the pose/musculature is so fluid and lifelike as avatar_DavidJamesArmsby @DavidJamesArmsby said, it's lightyears ahead of HLG.

Agreed. Definitely one of the finest sauropod models, no surprise there given PNSO's recent trackrecord.

I do wish they gave a less... contentious nickname for him though.

Can someone give me some background on why the name is contentious besides it being based on very scarce material? Just an ignorant American here.

It's only because it hasn't been formally described yet.

I like the museum line, the fancy packaging gives it a proper prestige, collectors feel. Opening it feels like an event.

J @Joel1905 That's not the reason this figure is contentious at all.
G @GnastyGnorc I'm not sure we're aloud to discuss why this model's species choice, nickname, and even month of kickstarting are all contentious based on the rules of this forum. If you guys really want to know more, I suggest you both read up on current Hong Kong/Chinese political relations outside of this forum.

I think as long as only the facts (without any opinions) are being stated this has to be OK.

At a glance, this Hongkongsaurus appeals to me in terms of color pattern and pose 8)

I am not sure to understand the reason why the 1:35 scale figure appears smaller than a 1:45 version^^ :

We could possibly pass it off as a Nemegtosaurus but the ratio height/lenght might not perfectly match.

What's the context for the nickname? My attempt at google-fu didn't let me find anything

I think it translates to "Return" as in, "Hong Kong come back into the fold of the CCP and stop acting so democratic." Hong Kong is a semi-autonomous region of China, and its political lean has gone further away from the rest of China proper in the last decade or so. But its economic power is very important to China.
