Even if I don't agree with the quality of the figure for the price being asked (even more with conversion rates, and the trade war mess the US is in now, though I imagine those in the UK might find it a bit easier of a pill to swallow), I can't see why it wouldn't still be a high seller? It's still a T. rex, the most famous dinosaur, and it's from Everything Dinosaur, one of the more reliable dino figure retailers out there. Even if most of us here aren't ordering it for one reason or another, there's plenty of collectors outside of this forum that are likely interested in it.

That said recently I've been wondering if the cost of the figure is what it is due to the folks involved (paleontologist and artist, and anyone else), and that this is a startup project for them. Honestly I think it would be more palatable if there was some transparency for why it is costing what it is. I mean if it is to help cover the costs of the steel molds (being in PVC and ABS for the base), pay those folks their due in designing this, and profit (which could also be used to help fund future figures, cost of business, etc), then I'd find it more acceptable, even if I wish the sculpt was better in some ways (sharper teeth, arms not molded to the body, finer scale detailing as in the BotM and PNSO figures, etc).

After seeing avatar_Over9K @Over9K 's response, I'd like to add this:
I do wonder what they mean by limited. Like how much of a production run are we talking about? 1000? More? Less? We played the same game with Papo with the 2019 Spinosaurus where it was declared to be a limited release, only for it to seem like any other figure they've produced.

Something limited would be like the SDCC or kickstarter exclusives, or statues even, with a much smaller production run, in both quantity and likely shorter duration where it is available. While we have no idea how much quantity was produced for that Papo 2019 Spinosaurus, the fact it is still readily available (at least I'm pretty sure it still is) is suggestive that it was not the former, and certainly not the latter, or if it was truly limited initially, it no longer is. There are things that are marketed as limited to gauge market feedback, and if things are successful enough they are kept around afterwards, like with certain food flavors or menu items from fast food, for example. It can also create artificial scarcity, like as seen with SDCC exclusives, and can be predatory in that regard (including inflicting fomo on long time collectors that might rather space it out, potentially making it inaccessible for newer collectors to enjoy down the road, etc).

I certainly don't feel fomo with this, as T. rex is a dime a dozen, and if I wait long enough, I'll have my ideal one. But for something like Anzu, it may be more of a concern, as the only other figure of that genus for example, is from Safari and I think was retired last year?

Perhaps all they mean is that they've sold more than they were anticipating by this point, even if that number still isn't tickling PNSO, Eofauna, or HLG numbers

Perhaps worth remembering that no production quantities were ever listed for limited edition HLG sauropod versions. No one worried about that. I consider that there is a significant difference between limited edition mass-produced figures and limited edition resins (where I expect to know the number to be issued and find an individual number on my model).

I would not expect any company of this type to give an account of how they reached their price point. I don't think that that's the sort of transparency one can reasonably demand here. Different if it's your plumber costing his repairs: time, materials etc!

HLG wasn't asking a further 30% in price for a certain few sauropods, in a different box with some art and some cards, based on claims these figures were "super extra wicked limited"...

Anyone here preordered?

I did.  :*D

Is there a photo of it available?

Actually yes, cards were involved.  The limited edition Alamosaurus came with a pack of playing cards.

Oh Sorry I mean't the PNSO Lipped Rex. But I just saw it (found it in PNSO's new for 2025 thread), and it looks great! Hopefully ED's Rex looks better on hand.

Ahhh... so what was the price differential between the "standard" Alamosaurus, and the "limited" version with the cards?

IMO, if they're going to ask 30% more money, for the exact same figure, and the exact same base, because it comes with pretty cardboard, and a prettier box and they're telling me it's "strictly limited", they have to expect me to want an explanation of what "strictly limited" means. Is it a number? Is it purely a marketing term? If you want more money for the same thing, I kinda need a real reason.

EDIT: I will say, IF they did come out with a number, and it was 1500 or fewer, AND the figures were somehow differentiated, it would suddenly be an insta-buy for me. If it was truly rare, by virtue of a limited run, AND the different editions can be identified, I'd buy it.
