How anatomically accurate is this model? It's pretty cool looking, but I don't know enough about stegosaurs to know how realistic it is.

(Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I searched the blog and forum but did not find anything on this specific model.)

He's pretty retro :) The only thing I would say is very accurate is that he has four tail spikes (as opposed to, say... 6 or 8 ), and his head is very small (steg toys often have oversized heads).

Compare him to the sideshow steg, which is considered about as accurate as one can get:

My living room smells like old plastic dinosaur toys... Better than air freshener!

The tail's too short, mind. The Favorite is probably the most anatomically accurate toy version.

Yeah, I have one or two Stegosaurus models with extra tail spikes.

To be fair, those with the 8 spikes are probably based on Stegosaurus ungulatus:

People thought it had 8 spikes.

But yes, the Carngie Stego is on the retro-side. Recently aquired one specimen of the first Version myself along with the Allosaurus. Both cheap and both still in their bags.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

I think that is the 2nd version of the 1988 carnegie stego. I believe I have an even earlier version of the Carnegie stego than that. He is yellow and has an even rougher sculpt. Here is a pic i found. There may be an even earlier version than this one.

Technically, it is the third-ish version. The very first ones were a muddy yellow/green/brown color.

The first Version kinda looks like the old Bullyland Stego...
In that case, I have a Version 2 Stego, as mine is yellow and brown.

Here's a pic of an old 1988 Carnegie Stego I used to have before I traded it away. Note how much thicker the thagomizer is than in the newer model shown in the OP.

Oh interesting. The Seller who I got my Stego from actually used a pic of your Stego in the auction.  Probably the same for my Allosaurus. ( Both came still bagged however )
