So,I've been reading lots of comments saying the Papo version is much better. Why?  ;D

Personal preference I guess. I don't particularly care for either model, but given the choice I'd choose the Papo Tyrannosaurus. The detail puts Carnegie to shame. Here's the way I see it:

Papo Tyrannosaurus: Movie monster. Excellent detail and paintwork, but poorly researched.
Carnegie Tyrannosaurus: Scientific replica. Not so well detailed, and poor paintwork. Well researched.

You can't really compare the two because they seem to be aimed at different audiences. A better comparison would be the Carnegie vs. Favorite Ltd., in my opinion.

What TQ says. However, I find the Carnegie Rex more disappointing considering it supposedly celebrates Carnegie's 25th anniversary, but is not a marked improvement over the earlier T-Rex.

I have the new Carnegie rex and can tell you it is in no way the "disappointment" that the commenters on its recent blog entry who gave it a low rating want you to believe it to be.It's nothing more than fanboys with the you must love only Star Trek or only Star Wars and hate the other mentality (only think of that with Safari Ltd. and Papo.) :)

Don't you hate it when you legitimately compliment someone's mustache and she gets angry with you?

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think this thread is pretty unnecessary anyway. In the end there is no definitive answer. It all boils down to preference. As Crackington said: "different strokes for different folks"

LOL, I hate Star Wars and like Star Trek. I'm not a fanbrat about it though. I just grew up watching Star Trek and that's my preference ;) But they're both different kinds of sci fi. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

I like both Star Wars and Star Trek.

I don't horribly dislike the new Rex, on it's own it's a decent figure. But a single figure of an all too often used species that improves little on its previous incarnation just isn't a right way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of such a distinguished musem line.

Tyrannosaurus rex being something hardly new is a point I can certainly see.But happily, the Carnegie Collection is not the only good line out there,so we still get plenty of variety. :)

I chose the Carnegie model.   Yes it has some issues, but I think it looks better then its predecessor.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I went with the Carnegie model. The Papo running Rex seems to be a mesh of JP and Kong V-Rex..a design I wasn't thrilled with. Now if it were the " perched " Papo Rex..I'd have to side with it.

Megalosaurus

Lets use our imagination  ;D

Supose that Carnegie gives Papo all their research and some general specifications, and comition them to sculpt & produce their 25 anniversary T-Rex.
That would be an amazing piece  :))
Sobreviviendo a la extinción!!!

The Papo is much larger than the new Carnegie, so it has more detail and looks more impressive. I think it comes down to personal taste. I like them both.
