Leave it to the media to get it wrong. Also anyone else sees the line "luded in fragrances. Likewise, the chemicals that make symmetrical men smell good could become ingredients in aftershave."

Wasn't athritis also found in an actual Dinosaur, Caudipteryx?

And ofcourse the first comment is by some creationist dumbass! I need to stop reading the comment section...
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Sharptooth

When it comes to dinosaur (or modern animals) news, i never read comments (it's not good for my health); poor pliosaurs, though...  :(

::) Dinosaurs suffered from arthritis?

I guess...other animals seem to get various bone diseases..why not dinos or other prehistoric creatures.

This one sounded pretty bad..it's bones degenerated til it's jaw broke ?  Ouch.

No, dinosaurs getting arthritis does not bother me but pliosaurs were not dinosaurs. What afflicts a marine reptile in an entirely different order of animals has little to do with dinosaurs. There is nothing about actual dinosaurs in the article (the Telegraph one anyway). Still an interesting discovery though but it annoys me when the media reports things like this. I guess it'll never change so I need to get over it.

just goes to show how little reserch any news network can could do >:(

ZoPteryx

Oh the mass media, when will they ever learn. :P

The discovery is interesting though, I wonder how old the pliosaur would have been to get arthritis.

i was wondering that as well.  Must have easily been a mature specimen..should give a max size for the species.

A pliosaur arthritis topic was already in the 'in the news' section. Duplicate topics merged  C:-)

Just the thought of a pliosaur with arthritis makes me sad, poor marine-reptiles... It is interesting though. I mean, I know that animals were subject to all sorts of diseases and afflictions yet it is still surprising to know that any animal dino, marine reptile or flying reptile could suffer from something like arthritis.

Horridus

Dinosaurs (you know...ACTUAL dinosaurs, not distantly related marine reptiles :P) did suffer from arthritis. There's an Iguanodon foot in the NHM with arthritic bony growths.

And yeah, the mass media really fell over with this one. I remember while doing my dissertation that one of the Telegraph's science writers expressed his embarrassment at the number of times his paper called some non-dinosaurian animal 'a dinosaur'. It looked like they'd improved for a while back there...oh well...

There is also Caudipteryx, as I previously mentioned.
