My wife Mariah and I went and visited my parents in Washington DC over Juneteenth weekend, and naturally the Smithsonian fossil halls were required viewing. I had already created a series of slideshows for friends and family to explain everything we saw there, so I just edited them a bit for here.
Intro, Burgess Shale, early Paleozoic
Permian and Triassic
Jurassic
Cretaceous
Cenozoic
Ice Age

Thanks for sharing all those images. I didn't realize they had so many fossils of my favorite prehistoric animals there (including Ediacaran, Paleozoic, etc). Definitely will need to plan a trip to it maybe next year or so.

Fair warning: The Ediacaran and Burgess Shale exhibits are in the ocean hall along with the fossil whales and Dunkleosteus, not in the main fossil hall.

Thanks very much for the heads up. I'll have to try to keep that in mind for when I can get the chance to go.

The last time I went to the Smithsonian, a lot of this stuff was closed for the renovation, so I gotta find my way back there. Thanks for the annotated photos!
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.
