Just registered to the forum, although I was already a member of the old boards, but it seems my email address wasn't working anymore.

So, my story. I'm from The Netherlands, and have been collecting dinosaur toys ever since I was a kid. I still have most (probably all) of them as well. Were they scientifically accurate? No way... But they looked so cool and big!

Well, growing up I started learning more and more about prehistoric life, and am proud to say that I now have an extensive book collection of all kinds of extinct animals, from popular to hardcore scientific.

Looking forward to share and see mine and other collections here.

Regards,

Remko

Welcome to the forum new friend  ^-^.
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

Just a question before I start anything...

I noticed a Paleoart section on the forum. Well, I'm an avid drawer myself (just pencil, no fancy digital stuff), but have a fondness for drawing hypothetical animals. No fantasy creatures, but possible extinct animals based on modern forms. To fill in the niche some animals do now, but in the Mesozoic era.

A few ideas I have are as follows (mainly marine animals):

- Thresher Ichtyosaur (counterpart to a thresher shark)
- Basking mosasaur (counterpart to the basking shark)
- Filter feeding pliosaur (based on the Humpback whale)
- Ichtyosaur (Shastasaur) mesoplodont form (beaked whales), mostly based on the Blainville's Beaked whale (Mesoplodon densirostris), including the extreme jawline of the males. Idea came after reading that the Shastasaurs probably fed through suction

The ideas aren't that far fetched, as there was even a Marlin like Ichtyosaur (Eurhinosaurus longirostris), so it is very possible (especially when taking the incompleteness of the fossil record into account) that there were many more species occupying many niches similar to modern animals.
