Why so many dino expos in Japan?? And good ones actually...

Seriously, why the japanese have all the good stuff? Just when you though the only thing they have that you like is anime and manga....Now they also have dino expos every year.  >:( >:( :'( :'(

One possible thing to note is that the general public there tends to have a larger acceptance (note; acceptance =/= knowledge) of modern dinosaur reconstructions. They don't suffer as strongly from the anti-feather stigma that the west does. It could be this stems from western cultures anti-intellectualism elements which tend to shun layman exhibition of scientific consensus and knowledge. This is likely (at least in part) why they have so many more modern dinosaur exhibitions, whereas in North America if it isn't about Tyrannosaurus it gets overlooked or even shunned.

Carcharodontosaurus

I will be in Tokyo at this time on vacation, but I don't know if I will be able to go to the expo; it is 7hr30min from Tokyo by car! :(

Look at all those basal ceratopsians...

My source mentioned a November expo which she assumes will be mammal-based called Cave Paintings of the Ice Age.

Why indeed?!  I think we should have a group trip to pull in some of them. ^-^

Quite seriously, I love the poster for the Great Journey of Dinosaurs.

While browsing the web, I found out that at "The Great Journey of Dinosaurs" exhibit at the Fukui Prefectural Museum, there are new figures available (from Favorite).
That's what I found:

Yutirannus

Redondasaurus vs Coelophysis

Have you got more info about that?  ???

Flaffy

I hope I can find them when I get to the museum, I'm going to Japan at the end of this month, and the first stop is the Fukui Dinosaur Museum.  ;D
I wonder if brett has any news about this...

Halichoeres

Nice find, RobinGoodFellows! These are really exciting. It looks like the third one pictured is Pentaceratops + Bistahieversor, which will only be the second Bistahieversor available. Then Zuchengtyrannus + Sinoceratops and Dilong + ???. The last one is rendered "Inron" by Google Translate, maybe it means "Mei long?" Guess we'll see! Exciting assortment in any event.

Nice find indeed.  Thanks too, Halichoeres, for making sense of Bistahieversor.  My  web translation came out with complete gobbledygook for this one!

I'm now receiving an email from a seller in Japan about the new figures:

"According to Kazunari Araki's website, total 5 figure sets will be sold at the exhibit.
http://dinomodel.cocolog-nifty.com/dinosaurs/2016/07/post-0c5f.html

The first figure set was released on July 9th, the second figure set will release on July 20th. The others have no fixed release schedule, but Kazunari Araki said that all figures will be available by end of August.

The problem is the figure sets will be sold only at the exhibit in Fukui Prefecture Dinosaur Museum. Fukui Prefecture Dinosaur museum has an online shop, but the store doesn't carry the figure sets.
https://dinostore.jp/   "

Unfortunately that seller is 9 hours by car from the Fukui Prefectural Museum and he can't buy the new figures.
I'm searching for a new seller.
If a DTF Member will be at the Exhibit and he/she could be interested in selling and sending directly to Europe, please PM me.
:)

Flaffy

Why couldn't they just release all the sets all together? Or do they just want people to go to the exhibit again and again just to get the figures...  :P
