You might know that diapsids caught a huge break when the P-T extinction knocked back the synapsids, and another huge break when the T-J extinction knocked back the stem-crocodiles (and also some of the remaining synapsids, and most of the temnospondyls). But early Late Triassic climate change seems to have contributed as well. Dinosaurs got really, really lucky (or put another way, other tetrapod groups got really, really unlucky).
