One of the biggest gripes I have about the forum is that often when I type out a long response and hit Post the next screen will say in red letters something to the effect of "Someone else has posted since you wrote this. Are you sure you still want to post?" Unfortunately you have to scroll down to see it, so I have on multiple occasions navigated away from the page thinking my contribution was added, only to come back hours later to find it missing. I would very much like to see this feature done away with. Does anyone else find value in this feature, or has anyone else lost a post this way?

I have occasionally found it a useful feature if the previous post had some bearing on my own post or rendered it redundant. I've never actually lost my post. But I'm pretty easy either way over the feature.

I find it useful to check any new posts in case they influence what I was about to say. From memory, the red warning is at the top, and on a laptop screen at least it is obvious, so I've never lost a post because of it. Maybe it is different on mobile, so sorry that you have been troubled by it. I still think it's a feature that, on balance, has value though.

I lost another post on the ATF today this way. Always frustrating. I know I did something here on the DTF that stopped it from happening, but I don't see any guidance here of how to pull it off again there. Does anyone know?

I have lost them. I just wait until I see it posted. Or get the message.

Being a website, a forum isn't always going to work for real time chats and comments like a message board

avatar_BlueKrono @BlueKrono - can you clarify as to the nature of the post? Something recent? Or older? Just curious if something got moved during our recent reassigning of the old walkarounds.

EDIT: nevermind; I see from the start of thread what the issue is. Whenever I get the 'someone has posted since you wrote this' thing, I just ignore it and post my response. If the earlier post affects what I wrote, I can clarify later.

Never had that problem because I always see that notice. I typically browse on my laptop, and when on mobile, with the desktop formatting (because even on a phone I find the desktop layouts more helpful then compacted mobile ones). Like avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum and avatar_ceratopsian @ceratopsian I've found the feature helpful in avoiding posting redundant info.

Are the folks here having issues with it using the mobile layout of the website?

And just as I go to post this, I got this message, lol.

For clarification, I only use a mobile. Haven't used a computer in years, other than at work. This is the single most annoying feature I've encounter on any website I use regularly. To me the "value" of it is greatly outweighed by the lost time and effort of the post that disappears forever once I navigate away from the page, having clicked "Post". The red letters aren't visible like at the top of the screen on the mobile site; you have to scroll down to see them. I'm not in the habit of doing so since no other site I've ever used does this. I know there's a way to turn this feature off since I've done it here on the DTF, I just don't remember how it's done.

That explains that.

I think I found the setting you are talking about though. Not sure about the ATF as I'm not a member there, but on here it is located under the Look and Layout section (under the user drop down menu at the top where your profile pic is) called:

"Don't warn on new replies made while posting" with a little check box underneathe it. I guess if you check that and save it, it should stop those messages.

It also sounds like the message should be modified on the mobile layout for those using it (if at all possible) to be at the very top, if used.

I'm sure the red notice visible in that screenshot is in the same place on mobile, it's probably just below the fold of your mobile screen.

The option avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin suggests could be the fix you need! (posted by them while I was typing, so I got the red message, so I could edit this before posting!)

There is another give away - successful posts redirects back to the published post within the thread, whereas the page with the red message shows just a preview of the post at the top of the screen (not published in the thread, so missing avatars etc.). It's subtle, but it may help you to avoid missing posts in the future.

That's it! Thank you! Did that on the ATF, so I should never run into that problem again. As long as I remember to do it on the impending monster one too...
