I just saw it and liked it! A bit of fresh air after the previous 2 Jurassic World movies, I liked it more than Fallen Kingdom & Dominion for sure.

Spoiler
I think the D-Rex and other mutants were kind of pointless. I would have much preferred maybe the t rex to show up in the end, and maybe the spinos could up out of the River in the end and the rex takes out one or two. How cool/scary would it have been to have the raptors in the vents? not sure what those flying raptor/pterosaurs were supposed to be.

I really liked the scenes with the Mosasaur & Titanosoars. Nice to have some more deaths finally too. It felt very Jurassic Park 3-ish to me (of course not nearly as good though). Overall I liked it, not the best one, but I enjoyed it more than Fallen Kingdom & Dominion.

Spoiler
I was kind a shocked there was no big battle at the end.  I guess after all this time all the predators know to stick to their own areas. I also missed the rumored Diabloceratops and Carnotaurus that were cut.  Speaking of cuts the raptors in the vents would have been great..a mutadon vs raptor pack would have been pretty awesome and a referenc to the LW novel where they changed the Rex's perceived territory.

I thought it was a pretty lousy Jurassic Park movie, but a pretty good generic dinosaur adventure movie. Jurassic Park movies should have underlying themes, which this doesn't. Probably liked it more than the other Jurassic World movies, but doesn't touch the "Park" movies. Scarlett Johansen is always likeable. Could have had a cleverer ending, though. My nieces enjoyed it, so that was the important thing. The Mutodons should just have been Velociraptors. And several aspects were kind of repeated (One water sequence with Mosasaurus/Spinosaurus and another with the Tyrannosaurus; One aerial threat with the Quetzalcoatlus, another with the Mutodons.) And the D rex pushed the mutant aspect further without a decent payoff, in my opinion - it was just there. In the end, though I enjoyed it more than the other "World" movies, it's gonna end up a movie I won't repeat watch whereas I will always come back to the original three, even though I don't even much care for JP3. Worth watching... once.
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

After getting through all 6 movies with my 10 y/o daughter I decided it was worth taking her to see this one. I was about her age when I saw Jurassic Park in theaters and even if I knew it wouldn't come close to the quality of JP seeing a sequel to it on the big screen with my daughter was something I didn't want to pass up.

As a brief aside, we watched Dominion a couple nights ago and my daughter loved it! She didn't much care for The Lost World, Jurassic World, or Fallen Kingdom but she somehow enjoyed what is widely regarded as the worst and most boring movie in the franchise. I think it was because it brought back the legacy characters, she liked Maisy and Beta, and she found the locusts creepy. Anyway, my thoughts on Rebirth...

It was completely predictable and paint-by-numbers. The story was, as I suspected, a video game side quest. The characters were only salvageable because they were played by good actors and the story was only bearable because Edwards is a good director. Koepp's writing didn't impress. You immediately knew which characters would die and which ones would survive which took a lot of the tension away. I did not like the mutant dinosaurs and I hated that they backtracked on the previous JW films. That said...

I enjoyed it for what it was. It was pretty much a better version of JP3. The cinematography, lighting, special effects, and directing are some of the best in the franchise. The scenes with actual dinosaurs were a lot of fun and looked great. The Titanosaur scene elicited some emotion from me and I loved the new T. rex. After the convoluted plot of Dominion the simpler story was refreshing. It was a fun adventure film and worth seeing on the big screen because of how good looking it is. Most importantly, my daughter had a blast with it and I was glad that she got to see dinosaurs on the big screen. I'm not sure where I would rank it though. Higher than Dominion and JP3 I suppose, my least favorite movies in the franchise. Probably higher than The Lost World as well.

It is very amusing to me how similar Rebirth is to JP3. Given that the basic plot outline is "Characters crash land onto the island. Bum around in the woods for a couple hours. Before escaping to little consequence." With a familial struggle and an underlying notion that InGen has been up to some nefarious activity that isn't expanded upon. Even the films big bads exit without much fanfare.
"Boy do I hate being right all the time."

I haven't watched Mr. Thing's actual review yet b/c spoilers ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvlxOnp5zu4 ), but I really like this video. It sums up not only what I've heard about Rebirth, but also the impression I've gotten from the JW movies in general ;) :

It's at 52% now, below Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, and The Lost World but above Jurassic Park 3.

I know it's an unpopular opinion that I've shared before but I don't care for The Lost World and like Rebirth, it was written by Koepp. That alone was my first red flag for Rebirth.

I must have seen the audience score which is 72% currently. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jurassic_world_rebirth

TLW had issues..it wasn't the novel for example. I was REALLY wanting the novel story and Spielberg basically lifted the names and just made a different movie.  Speaking of the novel this film was the time to introduce DX into the mix and really mess with things. My guess is the next film won't even follow these characters/plots again though.

Yes, the audience score does tend to be higher. Much higher in this case, and astonishingly higher in the case of Dominion. The Lost World actually has a lower audience score.

I could see Jonathan Bailey returning but I can't think of a reason that other other characters might.

I actually wouldn't mind if none of these characters returned in future installments. Not that I didn't like them or anything but I feel like these one off adventure stories might be the direction this franchise should go in. In all honesty, I wouldn't have minded if that had been what they did from the start, not sure we needed a whole trilogy following Claire and Owen as central characters

I agree. Each film covers an unrelated story from the universe. They could cover a lot of ground that way. Maybe we could finally get out " dinosaurs in Africa" story.

Reading the novel tie in and scripts, it seemed Claire was originally the central focus character. Her growth in three films was a driving story element and she had a lot of backstory we never saw. I'm honestly a bit annoyed the studio felt the need to hire "starlord" to be in it just to add star power. Not that he isn't a fun actor, loved him in Guardians.  Dominion has so many issues I don't know where to start so  iwon't lol I'm sure I've mentioned it all before.

I can't really see where any of these current characters could go. Dolores did escape the island and she is a mutant of sorts..craving human interaction like the pet brand maybe mentioned in the novels.  but we have very few if any loose ends to tie up.

Duna

I haven't seen the film yet (I may go on the discount day or watch it online, I haven't made up my mind yet) but there is something I have to say:

I am pretty ANNOYED that when a USA productor, guionist or whateverthemotheroftheguionist wants to use a Spanish surname, EVERYONE USES DELGADO. As Spanish, for me it is absolutely annoying because it just means an absolute lack of care, they don't bother at all because everyone uses DELGADO. I have heard it in hundreds of films and series. They have thousands of options to choose, they could even go with the most common in Spain and Spanish America like García. They could even use Martínez, Fernández, López, Rodríguez ... even Sánchez and González (not Gonsales o whatever chewing-gum they have in the mouth).

I had to say this.  :*D

I agree that none of the characters from Rebirth NEED to return for the next one.

Watch them backtrack on Rebirth and make it so the dinosaurs are spreading again thanks to global climate change.  ::D

JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH---the sequel earned $318 million globally which is second only to JURASSIC WORLD as the highest-grossing movie of the JURASSIC franchise. Also, it made Scarlett Johansson as the highest-grossing actor of all time with her lifetime career movie earnings of $14.8 billion.
Director Gareth Edwards commented on a possible sequel, "Maybe there's something in there. But no, we tried to make this movie like a single standalone. When I look back on sequels, trilogies that I love, what they all have in common is that the first movie was on its own, and then it became a high-class problem of how do we now make the others? I've genuinely never talked about it with anybody. Not a single conversation with David Koepp or Frank Marshall or Universal about a sequel. I think everyone's like (knocks on wood), all they want is for people to really like this movie and make the best film we can, and that's it. And then it's in the lap of the gods, everything else, really."

Writer David Koepp commented on the REBIRTH dinosaur mating scene:

IndieWire: I love the scene of the two dinosaurs making out.

    Koepp: It's lovely!

    IndieWire: It is.

Koepp: It was tricky to write because, you know, how much of a mating scene are we talking about? How "Jurassic Pork" are we going to go with this?

IndieWire: Yes, there's a world where that goes too far.

Koepp: There certainly is. In one draft of the script I wrote, "They approach the dinosaurs in the field. Let's just put it this way, they have eight legs between them but only six are on the ground."

    IndieWire: You actually wrote that?

    Koepp: I did.

IndieWire: And you turned it in?

Koepp: Yeah, I turned it in. I thought it was funny!

Honestly feels like a fitting direction to take the series but yes, it would require a major backtrack which would just smack of creative indecisiveness

I guess if Star Wars can do it...

Dilopho

I saw the film today and quite enjoyed it

There's some stuff I didn't like, namely the dinosaurs lacking screentime, the shoddy science, but worst of all for me... the military glazing throughout the whole film

I truly do not understand why Henry is supposed to be a character who vouches for peace, affordable healthcare and such and yet constantly is like "wow, you're military? that's so COOL! Your life is so EXCITING! Wowwww!"

Spoiler
And explicitly tying Zora to Blackwater is weird, Blackwater? The Blackwater that killed innocent civilians IRL in Baghdad, that Blackwater? That feels like such a weird thing to pin onto your character, a real IRL massacre of civilians? And Zora is related to that somehow? I forgot what the exact line was but I thought that was really odd

The dinosaur scenes are pretty excellent even if I wish species had more than one scene a lot, I especially love the T. rex and Quetzalcoatlus scenes.

Death spoilers:

Spoiler
Seeing somebody get eaten whole by a Quetz has been something I wanted to see in a movie since always because of how crazy it is and we finally got it. And Martin's death made me gag because it's brutal and nasty.
[close]

I really liked all the little cameos from dinosaurs and non-dinosaurs throughout the film. There were quite a few and they made me happy to see.

Spoiler
But wth is up with the tiny finch sized Pteranodon, LOL?!? They have Anurognathus IN the movie, could they not have used one of those in that cage?
