The Jurassic World section at my Walmart is a ghost town! I guess that means they're doing their job properly here, clearing out old stock but not jumping the gun and putting out new stock until it's time so good on them I suppose. I'm sure looking forward to seeing these new figures on shelves but I would be pretty irritated if I got stopped from actually buying them so I'd say that's for the best. I'm already annoyed with my Walmart, I tried to buy a marked down Suchomimus twice only to find out it wasn't actually discounted on both occasions

Blade-of-the-Moon

I ran into that too with the last frenzy pack wave, tag said 4.00 but it was full price.

Yup. There was a jackapil at my Walmart mixed in with all the newer frenzy packs and it was the only one actually on sale.  ????

I'm sure if you made a fuss or something they'd honor the tag but I'm never in the mood to put up a fight over toys

Giganotosaurus

So is Titanosaurus still considered a dubious genus? I'm kind of surprised this species was chosen for the movie. I'm not sure whether to buy the figure or not.
Mosasurus on Jurassic Mainframe and JPToys
Angurius on TohoKingdom

I love all the Jurassic movies, plus Disney's Dinosaur

Dilopho

Yes, for now at least haha
Troodon just made a comeback, maybe Titanosaurus will in the future too

The new Titanosaurus design is a fairly odd one due to having the whip tail which is more known from sauropods like Diplodocus rather than titanosaurs. I'm curious to see if it is actually based on any specific species or not.

The Quetzalcoatlus in this film apparently used to be Thanatosdrakon in an earlier version- perhaps these Titanosaurus started off as something like a Seismosaurus, the long tail was written into the movie, and then they got changed to Titanosaurus but kept the tail?

It's been the case before in the Jurassic World films where an animal was changed into one with a more catchy name.
The Atrociraptors in Dominion were Deinonychus previously.

Trenchcoated Rebbachisaur

Titanosaurus is almost definitely not coming back, it has nowhere near the media prowess that Troodon did.

exactly, and I do enjoy the hunt.

I'm assuming that "Titanosaurus" was chosen because it's simple to say and it sounds impressive. Whereas "Argentinosaurus" is slightly more of a mouthful, and doesn't immediately conjure up images of a colossal dinosaur in the minds of those who aren't dinosaur fans. That being said, I don't like the decision one bit.

The Rebirth Titanosaurus is a bit of an odd duck.  The crazy long tail does not belong on a titanosaur....they are all believed to have had medium to shortish tails.  That plus the sails on the back of the head an over the hips pretty much salts it for me as a pass over.  I'll save the limited space i have left for whatever sauropod comes out next year.  It's a bit of a disappointment after the really nice Diplodocus.

I think it's also the same case for the Dominion Giganotosaurus. Judging by the design (the spikes on the body), it looks similar to Acrocanthosaurus. I also get that they wanted it to look visually different from the T-Rex. But it has been named Giganotosaurus, to lay emphasis on the line "The biggest carnivore the world has ever seen."

In some of the concept art it's designed as an Acrocanthosaurus.
It would have been an interesting pick too, Acrocanthosaurus could indeed grow bigger than a T. rex. Just look at those paired mounts of the two in Texas.

Speaking of the Giga,
They just revealed a new figure of it. It's paired with the Therizinosaurus and they have paint decos inspired by the Kenner electronic Dilophosaurus and the normal raptor

GEBA!

In an advent calendar that seemingly also includes figures of Ghost, Pyroraptor and a Monolophosaurus.
Seemingly 4 full sized figures and then the rest may be minis?

Carnoking

Those sets are fun. Not essential or groundbreaking but fun.

Aside from the minimal paint apps (no claw paint, no belly paint on the JP and TLW, some markings missing, etc), they got the patterns and general colorations right from the looks of it. Something the HC figures either struggled with, or it was sculpt problems. Heck this new TLW raptor is a better rep then the new HC one despite the lack of paint. The stripes are better applied (although still missing the continuation on the head, same for the HC figure).

Though I still think the best JP raptor we got was the kitchen pack one released alongside Dominion, if not the set with Hammond and Ellie from prior. I liked the kitchen one more because of the added neck articulation.

Giganotosaurus and Therizinosaurus looks fun but probably not gonna pick it up with everything else on my wishlist. Edit: It was right there and I missed it. Joker Giganotosaurus (almost) lol. Yeah Kenner Dilo, but close ebough.

Glad Geba isn't canceled altogether. Still a shame about that beautiful Suchomimus variant though.

Wow...As if there weren't many new stuff lately from Mattel. I'm intrigued by that Reimagined line set comprising of the Giganotosaurus and Therizinosaurus. Choice of figures to put on the Kenner inspired colour schemes is unusual; but a nice tribute to the Kenner figures.

That set comprising of the raptors from the first trilogy is very interesting. But I don't get why did Mattel just release a Hammond Collection The Lost World JP Tiger Raptor when they had the intention to release another one in this set. Anyway, although a recycled sculpt, it looks better than the new HC one that just got revealed. The paint app also looks better, though lacking claw paint, stripes on the arms and legs and underside paint. Is the JP3 Male Raptor an Amber Collection or Hammond Collection sculpt? Or a new sculpt? It looks decent.

Damn it! You beat me to it!

Oh well, at least I was the first one to say it on Collect Jurassic's instagram post.

That's actually a pretty cool set, also first regular figure of the Giga that does not suck. I like that the shark-fin scutes are smaller on this toy.

That trilogy raptor set...not bad, not bad at all, specially the JP3 male.

Dilopho

i wish they would release a single version of the jp3 raptor because i want two or three of them and then wait for a good female

Faelrin

avatar_Dilopho @Dilopho There was the HC one for what it's worth. And the Epic Attack one, both released in 2023. The latter had the better head sculpt, but was also slightly out of scale, and electronic, with the unappealing sound holes on the side. Less paint detail too.

Also just realized they put the face stripes too low on the TLW raptor in the above set. Should be a little bit higher. Gives it an almost mustache look.

I would have preferred it they gave the Kenner Dilophosaurus paintjob to a Dilophosaurus. All well. It looks neat on that Giga but I have no interest in it. The raptor set is cool though, and would absolutely have to be displayed in the box. You could even swap out those raptors for the HC versions.
