A question from palaeontologist Mike Taylor. Are there any Barosaurus toys? It's a very well known dinosaur so, if not, why not?

I am only aware of a huge 3D printed resin kit available from Lana Time Shop:

There was a Kaiyodo Dinoland from the late 90s, posed rearing like the AMNH one, but it's long unavailable.

It's pictured here from the Dinoland thread

Well,
here is a 'fresh' add :

Some of the smaller dinos here ( 100mm serie ) are of the same prototype but are made of soft vinyl ( or other 'rubber' ), instead of Resin.
I read somewhere it was for the Osaka 1993 "Dino Alive" Expo:

And a nice collection :

I think there were big and small ones

I think the reason why there aren't Barosaurus toys is because companies keep making titanosaurian toys, most notably CollectA releasing Ruyangosaurus and Dreadnoughtus one after the other with both figures looking essentially identical anatomically.

Barosaurus is the sauropod I most want made into a toy, I'm hoping CollectA or Eofauana make it!  Or Haolonggood!

I would think the chances that we will see a Barosaurus or Supersaurus as one of the next large sauropod figures from Haolonggood (after Brachiosaurus) are quite good actually.

Arguably the same can be said for Diplodocinae.

The only reason most Titanosaur figures don't seem very distinct from each other are due to the overrepresentation of colossal titanosaurs. As the largest members are almost always the most fragmentary, reconstructions have to infer from mroe complete taxa, which results in many figures essentially being minor variations of the same bodyplan.

Sadly the more interesting and distinct members of Titanosauria are oftentimes the smaller taxa, which unfortunately doesn't generate as much interest. Ironically titanosaurs that actually have decent fossil material recovered are not properly described (e.g. Ampelosaurus bonebed).

I'm in agreement with what you said about titanosaurians, avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy.  As for Diplodocinae, do you mean that companies keep making Diplodocus and nothing else?  That's true too!

There's also one by Xidi/Happy Kin:

Yes indeed! Would like to see more Diplodocines on the market outside of Diplodocus. Barosaurus as per the thread topic is obviously high on my list, but I'd also like to see the smaller more unique members in figure form too. Like Ardetosaurus with its odd elongate torso.

The HappyKin version may technically be a Barosaurus, but by name only! Do you own it?

As an aside, I think that we need a moratorium on titanosaurs.

At the speed that all the major companies are going at, we might actually run out of titanosaurs to choose from sooner or later  :))

I replaced it with the Kaiyodo one, but I never sold it, so yeah, it's in a box somewhere in my guest room closet.

I have one as a tentative collection piece. If I were give  the choice between that and the Kaiyodo figure I'd absolutely go for the Kaiyodo without a second thought.
