-This juvenile Ceratosaurus was discovered in Wyoming almost 30 years ago. It's 6 feet tall and consists of 139 original fossil bone elements, including a nearly complete skull. Cassandra Hatton from Sotheby's told reporters the specimen is "one of four ceratosaurus ever found, and the only juvenile amongst them." It's expected to fetch $4 to $6 million at auction.

Not this again.

Details on where it originated from the auction page:

QuoteExcavated on privately owned land by Western Paleontological Laboratories at Bone Cabin Quarry (West), Wyoming, USA, in 1996;
Acquired by the Museum of Ancient Life, Thanksgiving Point, Utah;
De-accessed by the above, 2024;
Fossilogic, LLC, acquired from the above in 2024;
Finished and mounted by the above from 2024-25

Exhibited (unrestored and not mounted) at the Museum of Ancient Life, Thanksgiving Point, Utah from 2000-2024

Edit: Information from wikipedia suggests this specimen has never been scientifically described, as the museum above that held it is of a private one, not a public one.

Here are the images of the original material on wikipedia:

Need some billionaire to step up, buy it and then donate it to a major museum.

Update: The skeleton has been auctioned for a whopping $30.5 million by Sotheby's, making it the third highest price on record paid for a dinosaur skeleton. The initial expected sum to be fetched was $4 to 6 million.

Quite sad to see these scientifically valuable specimens go in a private collection.

Another loss for science, but kind of figured as such. Apparently a pachycephalosaur skull was also auctioned off from there, which looked rather unique (if Pachycephalosaurus then very interesting individual variation or perhaps sexual dimorphism going on).
