the endorsement of such a network means nothing

Jetoar

It is not a knock-off of anything. I have this figure and other of the same collection. Some figures of this line are knock-off of Jurassic Park 3 dinosaurs.
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

knockoffs are usually made by fly-by-night operations.  If you're an actual legitimate organization with actual net worth, you don't normally go around knocking off another company's intellectual property.  Unless you like to be sued.

The WWD Live Show, certainly a big brand dinosaur event, did the exact same thing with the exact same sculpts. So yeah, it does happen on occasion, even though such legitimate organizations should do better.

Why does this happen? Is it because the seller gets an offer outside of eBay? Isn't that against the rules?

Most likely this ^. I know someone who was offered just recently to take something off. In the end he didn't,  and made more money than offered.

I'm guessing it happens frequently with sought after stuff. One thing that may motivate some sellers is getting out of their ebay fees. It's still annoying--like sellers that end auctions right before they end because the value didn't go where they wanted it to
That happened to me recently. There was a dinosaur set that I had been watching intently all week, and the opening bid was not exceptionally high dollar, but it was still something. And then about two hours before the auction was supposed to end, I had checked it and it mysteriously vanished. I had not bid on it at this time (no one had), I kind of wanted to see what was going to go before I placed a bid.
Anyway, a couple of hours before the auction was to end it mysteriously vanished. I actually messaged the seller and ask him what happened, and even implied if somebody had made him an offer to take it off. The seller flatly told me "I took it off because I figured no one wanted it because it no one was bidding on it".

Craziest thing I ever heard, but he must have been telling the truth, because a few days later the item was relisted (and I did win it that time!).

EBay is a weird place sometimes.

I wonder if anyone else has had this happen to them. I bid on a rare dinosaur that I have been looking to add to my collection for a while, and I set my max bid pretty high. Everything is going pretty well until the auction disappears completely. There is no record of my bidding on it on my eBay account at all. I have a suspicion that the seller may have taken the auction down, but I don't know why. It may be that I am an international bidder, but the seller said in the item description that they were happy to ship internationally. I've had this happen before, and it was on a model kit and it was equally annoying.

This ticks me off because it's a waste of my time and I don't get a chance at buying >:( I don't even get an apology or an explanation.

I'm sure that's exactly what happened. I have bad that happened to me on numerous occasions, more so recently than in previous years, I don't know why. I will be watching an auction and all of a sudden it vanishes, even if there are bids on it. And a couple of times the sellers have flat out told me "well this guy offered me X amount of dollars to sell it to him and end the auction, so I did".

I guess they do not really care that it is against the rules, but it seems like a pretty crappy thing to do.

I need to vent. I have been bidding on a Tyrannosaurus again on eBay. The item only had a few hours left and I was in the lead. Aaaaaand the item disappears again >:( It was going to be a birthday present for myself (my B-day is tomorrow). I'm really getting annoyed and sick of this.

This waste of my time combined with the inflated prices is the straw that breaks the camel's back. From now on I'm buying from stores only.

Vent over. Sorry, had to get that out :-\

QuotePotential Knock Off, but I'm not sure. Description seems to be based off of the made in China stamp: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-OF-3-DINOSAUR-FIGURES-FROM-CHINA-/371080706984?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item5666223ba8
Those are by TS Toys.

They're not official products, but they took inspiration from the WWD designs.

uh oh, someone from mainland China is already selling the Rebor rex... i'd really hate it if this company gets ripped off/plagiarized in the near future :(

I found this on eBay, it looks like the seller has a few:

Does anyone know who the sculptor is?
Read the description: it says Darren McDonald ;)

Looks like the paintwork was done by either Steve Riojas or Shane Foulkes (I'm leaning towards the latter). I believe Shane Foulkes and Darren McDonald has some kind of partnership going on but it fell through.

Facepalm moment of the day. I haven't seen McDonald's kits in a while and was actually wondering about them before seeing this.
