Because I don't think "Devil Dinosaur" would be as child friendly.  ;)

What?! devil dinosaur is appropriate for all audiences, can't tell me rocket raccoon deserves a movie and DD and moonboy don't

QuoteI think having him as a very well behaved Gentleman with a soft voice would have been funnier.
I don't think so. The whole gentleman meme thing is overdone, and I don't find it funny. Besides, the original Toy Story was made in the '90s, when the internet was not particularly widespread. The gentleman meme probably wasn't even around at that time.

QuoteThat being said, the plot given so far does sound fairly generic, so while the same holds true for WWD3D, that movie atleast looks good, something that can not be said about "The Good Dinosaur".
Wow, is that all you care about in movies? The Transformers movies look amazing, but their plot is pretty much garbage. The plot for WWD does not look spectacular in my opinion at all. It sounds about as generic as can be.

Also, how can you say that the Good Dinosaur doesn't look good? Why, because the dinosaurs aren't "realistic"? Why don't you write off Finding Nemo, Toy Story, UP, and almost every animated film ever made because they're not realistic then?

What about Dinosaur Train? Do you hate that too? Nevermind that it is well liked by kids (and even some adults) and has a paleontologist on the show. Oh wait, it doesn't have a human in the story, so I guess it gets a free pass ::)

I could look at a film like Finding Nemo and say that (without seeing it) that the plot would probably be generic. Maybe it would be about a fish who goes on a journey and has to outwit some sharks. But the real film is nothing like that.

Btw, if you still think the film is going to have bad visuals because the dinosaurs are stylised and not accurate, you should look at these images:

One thing that Pixar films are usually praised for is their stories. I don't think any of their stories can be considered generic. As far as I'm concerned, you're only picking on the film because you don't like the fact that it doesn't have super realistic dinosaurs.

Sorry if I went off the handle a bit there, Cityraptor :-\ You're entitled to your opinion of course, but I stand by what I said :)

They might have taken some inspiration from that book. Another similar one is Jacob Two-Two and the Dinosaur :

Stylistically, the movie reminds me most of Crozat's "I am a big dinosaur" ( http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=%22i%20am%20a%20big%20dinosaur%22 ) & thus is very nostalgic (which Pixar movies are very good at being).

Regarding the film, I read this on Wikipedia:

QuoteThe filmmakers want to explore what dinosaurs represent today, and how they are represented in stereotypes
This might be interesting. It could have some fun references to dinosaurs in pop culture, and stuff that we grew up with as kids. Plenty of possibilities there.

Also, if you're a Pixar fan, check this to have your mind blown http://jonnegroni.com/2013/07/11/the-pixar-theory/

If that is true (and I would not be surprised if it is) then my optimism towards this film just increased substantially.

John Lasseter also said this:

QuotePixar does dinosaurs, but like anything we touch... it's unlike any other dinosaur picture you've seen 'cause it doesn't fit in your typical [idea of] what you think dinosaurs are. It's absolutely beautiful too.

It could be good :) Cars, which I consider to be the weakest Pixar film, is still a decent film compared to anything that Disney has made recently.

Disney did recently make "Tangled" which I admittedly enjoyed more than "Cars". I haven't seen "The Frog Princess" but I was happy to see Disney return to traditional animation. I think that is something most of us can agree we would like to see Disney do again.

The Frog Princess wasn't bad at all I think..had a good traditional Disney feel.

Well, I guess when you change directors this would be bound to happen. The film has been pushed back to... 2015. So now we will get this film AND Jurassic World in the same year, haha! It's gonna be a dino-filled year now for sure. Do you guys think the story will change drastically with this change in director and extended release date? Maybe it won't hardly be the same film at all anymore. Who knows!

In addition, for you Pixar fans, Finding Dory was originally scheduled for 2015, but probably due to this delay, has been pushed back itself to 2016. So this also means we won't be getting ANY Pixar film next year. When was the last time that happened?

Jurassic Time is back... and this time, it will stay with you forever.

Jurassic Time... it can now belong in your own museum.

postsaurischian

He, he - they probably fear the competition with WWD 3D ;D.

But WWD 3D is a December film for this year, The Good Dinosaur was originally slated for May 2014, almost 5 months later. And now it is 5 months after Jurassic World.

Dan

I think "competition" in film is easy enough to avoid by simply steering your release date a few weeks clear of another film's release date, if they share the same genre (Which they really don't share in this instance, anyway). In fact, Disney may simply count on the popularity of Jurassic Park to act as a bolster for the Pixar film.

scallenger

It would seem more likely that putting a dinosaur film near a Jurassic Park film would actually be a good way to get more attention, especially right afterward since no matter what, I'm sure Jurassic World will be the bigger money-maker of any of the other dinosaur films. It'll already get the vast majority of the world's attention perked up for dinosaur mayhem.

But sadly, I think the true reason is the creative differences they are clearly having, with the removal of the director. Like I said, who knows what this movie will be like now.

Interesting-this is the first I've ever heard of this movie.

Well, it already looks different from what was originally shown back then, when it was still "Untitled Movie about Dinosaurs".

The old Version atleast looks visually better. But more like the Kid is civilized and the Dinosaur is the pet. Now the Dinosaur is civilized and the Kid is the pet.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Aw man, that does look better.
Does anyone else think (read: hope) that the two black-and-white pictures to the right of the guys' head are feathered dinosaur models?
