I don't know about you guys, but I am so sick of seeing that Papo Rex copy-pasted into EVERYTHING related to Dinosaurs. The existence of a well sculpted figure is no excuse for you to not make your own artwork.

Well its not like the Papo rex was actually original in itself... Its the go to reference for those who want the JP rex but are afraid of enraging Universal, as for Universal themselves using it, well they get a free pass for revenge sake.

Plasticbeast95

original or not, its still lazy to use it out of context.

CityRaptor

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

I don't see the resemblance.
They took a photo of the Papo running Tyrannosaurus and and turned it into an inflatable. If you look carefully the identity is obvious.

Gotta say, how do you not see it? The head that is printed is the Papp running Rex.

Roselaar

I do see it,, especially knowing it formerly looked like this:

They removed the goofy print job and replaced it by a photo of the Papo T-Rex. It's not the shape of the model, it's the print on it.

Kayakasaurus

Here he is in Autodesk advertising. I think it's used because it's the most affordable and widely available high detail version of the classic JP Dinosaur, it's very recognizable. When the average person thinks "Dinosaur" they think "TRex" and when they think Rex they picture the JP Rex.

Slightly off-topic, but that is an awesome app and concept! I really look forward to seeing where 3d printing ends up in the coming years.

Also, I agree with your reasoning completely - the Papo T. rex is closer to the JP T. rex than even any of the official JP toys and merchandise.

Off-topic but it is a great app! I've had it for a couple years because it's been on iOS longer than android. The finished result is amazing. 3D printing is going to flip the model world upside down, although people may be more interested in life size virtual reality than 1:40 hand held models. Ok, back on topic

You know your toy is famous when Microsoft starts using it for advertisments..

This is a t-shirt I picked up (and bought) the other day.
I....I....I don't know what to say about this. Why photoshop the Papo head on the Schleich body?

pylraster

Because the Schleich's head isn't cool enough for them I guess? I'd like a new Papo Rex in that kind of standing pose though.

MORE t-shirt designs with the papo rex (or at least part of it):

That Tyrannosaurus hoodie looks awful. The Papo T.rex's head is shooped onto a Burian tail dragger...
