Hhmm, the Sucho isn't as good looking up close as I had hoped for. The head looks a bit goofy. Which still won't probihit me from buying it of course. ::)

Just keep comparing it to the old Suchomimus...this one is gold. ;)

What if the actual animal also had a goofy-looking head? I'm not a fan of the pink nostrils and ear slits, but they are probably not as pronounced in real life (e.g. Vagaceratops, Ceratosaurus by Safari Ltd.)

I'd say the flash and photo size made them more prominent.

The figure is approximately as the carnotaur figure by papo. :) :)

And I dont have that model, but i'll hopefully get it soon. Could you compare it to the Wild Safari 2010 T-Rex? ??? :D

I don't have the t rex in safari but I will compare this one with an other figure ( maybe the gryposaurus in safari can be good to compare?).
I can try to compare with a papo or collecta figure.  :) :)

Do you have, say, the CollectA Deinocheirus or 1996 Carnegie Brachiosaurus to compare with? If so, compare the Sucho with either one-I dont care. :)

I don't like the head, or the overdone skin texture. I'll pass. Additionally, I'm not sure the scale texture would be such a large size, and so prominent. In reality I think they'd probably only be visible at extremely close range (since theropods have fine pebbly scales)

Well some of them do..the ones we've found skin samples of.  Now like Carnotaurus had some larger ostoederms on it's body if I recall.  Spinosaurs seem to push the crocodile feel with people and this one feels like it's trying to show that they may have been similar in behavior as well as appearance.

Looking closely I can see several different sizes of scales showing too. The legs and hands are much smaller that the back which has larger armor-like scales. The rest vary a bit in size as they go down toward the belly.

This sculpture by Czerkas shows a lot of similar skin detailing :

I think with a good repaint it would look much better. Toss some patterns on it.

But that model by Czerkas is in a much bigger scale. If you shrank it down to the same size as the Safari, wouldn't the scales shrink also? That's the problem I have with the model- the texture is too big in scale for it.

Forest Rogers did not add scales to the Carnegie Tylosaurus even though we have skin impressions for it, they would not have looked good in a 1/40 scale.

Yes, if you re-sized the statues, the small scales would all but disappear on it. This is the same issue with detailing a sauropod. The "elephant skin" detail is looked down on, but truth is on an animal that size, on a small replica, you would not see the majority of the scales. Look at the Carnegie theropods, like the Spinosaurus which have none of that.....

This reminds me of that Diplodocus sculpture that Seijun made a while back...she decided to not add scale texture because they would not have been visible at the size that the model was being made. http://www.dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,506.30.html

Interesting. Anyway, I think I've made my point so let's get back on topic :)

Yeah, Safari and CollectA items always look better in real life as the models themselves tend to appear much smaller when placed in one's palm (and thus, the flaws are not quite as obvious). The flash and photo size exaggerates these blemishes (almost like zooming in on a pimple).

Was the Meg sculpted by the same person as the rest of the line (Doug Watson) or someone else entirely?

It's not one of mine.

Blade-of-the-Moon

The Meg is okay..but I swear it looks like an Made in China cheapo figure of  a Great White..there really isn't much else to it.  I have a Safari great white with biting action that's larger and feels more appropriate.

Jetoar

I like to see images of figures that they are not a catalog images. Thanks for share  ^-^.
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?
