Apparently Discovery hasn't entirely given up on DR. They seem to have chosen to cut it down and release it to theaters .

Holtz : " Now it can be (partly) told: Some of the best bits of DInosaur Revolution are being strung together with narration by Werner Herzog into Dinotasia. "

I let out a jolted guffaw when Werner Herzog first chimes in. His narration seems...overly dramatic. But maybe that's just me  :-X

Well, now you've said that, it's rather hard to see it otherwise...  ;D

I have to agree. At least it's going to be VERY limited narration. ;D

What does Asia specifically have to do with this film? ;D

But seriously, if you require narration in a given language, perhaps using someone for whom that is their primary language would be most logical?  Honestly, even with minimal narration, every word spoken sounds 'off', not because of accent specifically, but because of tone and speaking style.  People get put off enough by the accents of people who speak the same language as it is (hence, American actors redubbing BBC doc's from David Attenborough). This won't really put an audience at ease.

And please don't misunderstand me--I'm not saying that people shouldn't be hearing differing accents. But on a commercial work meant for wide release, it's logical to cater to the audience.

And also, that may be the most bombastic, melodramatic narration ever written.  Maybe that doesn't help the language issue.

Though I can't wait ot see this in theatres, I wish it was still the classic DR. Does anyone know if the Syracosaurus storyboard is going to make its way into thw movie?

I don't think it's Asia, more of -tasia as in fantasia. Looks like a portmanteu of Dinosaur Fantasia is what I'm guessing. For theaters? Like theater-theaters or museum theaters is what I'm wondering about. I'd like to see it at a museum on the IMAX-screen. <3

I was being facetious, hence the "  ;D "

Could be IMAX only..but maybe available for any 3D theater ?

We're going back to Myrtle Beach in June so hopefully the IMAX there will have it.

The techniques used on how those Dino's have been rendered can be read here:
http://www.creativebloq.com/3d-tips/monster-size-sculpting-tips-123707/

Displacement Mapping is actually a  key feature of Tessellation, the Dino's have Tessellated Skin and body parts horns and such. each part is different than the other in various ways.

Simon

Will it have any footage that was not used for Dinosaur Revolution?

Tylosaurus

It's what Dino Revolution should of been, it's a proper remake. The Renders don't look complicated though, I have hardware than can do that easilly hehe and it will be a lot easier once my two EVGA GeForce GTX 580 3GB's arrive, 1024 Fermi CUDA Cores good for lots of Tessellated renders :)

If this below link is to be believed, this new version is 94 minutes long:

http://www.bva.org.uk/node/1835799

If this new runtime is accurate, I wonder how much we are really losing? We'll have to really see how much time in each episode is spent on exclusive footage (meaning no talking heads or recaps of previously shown or yet-to-be-shown footage and opening/end credits). Only then will we know how much will be cut.
Jurassic Time is back... and this time, it will stay with you forever.

Jurassic Time... it can now belong in your own museum.
