Let it be a giant theropod, please let it be a giant theropod. Giganotosaurs, Ceratosaurus or Dilophosaurus. Any or all, if I dare wish, is gladly accepted.
Ceratosaurus and Dilophosaurus were anything but giant theropods. Giant theropods were those like Suchomimus, Spinosaurus, Res, Giga, Mapusaurus, Oxalaia, etc.

Well.. the word 'giant' is subjective, to me anything greater than 6m would be gigantic. Especially if you saw it in real life.
Well, Ceratosaurus was only 5.5 meters long, and though Dilophosaurus was 7 meters long, it wasn't even as tall as a full grown man. Yes, I suppose you could call them big if you saw them in real life. But 1/40 models of them would be fairly small as far as models go. Just saying.  ;)

Everything I've seen for Dilophosaurus put it over the average human's height. Unless your thinking of Jurassic Park.

Ceratosaurus  is good sized animal as well. We've just been spoiled by " GIANT " everything.

They may not have been " super-predators " but seen in 1:1 anyone would be impressed.
No, I'm not thinking of JP. The size comparisons I have seen have shown that Dilo was much longer than a human, but about the same height.
Yes, 1:1 would be impressive. However, I just think that we can't call Dilo and Ceratosaurus, however cool/impressive in 1:1 they would be, "giant" dinosaurs. They are outclassed in that field by many theropods. I would love to see Papo make models of them; I just don't see the models being quite as large, say, as their Rex, which is what I think KeU was going for- "Please let it be a giant theropod. Then he classed Dilo and Cerato with Giganotosaurus; for me, they simply aren't in the same realm, whether in real life or model form. There would be no question encountering all 3 in real life, which of the 3 was gigantic.

What I've seen of Dilophosaurus with it's held high is over the average adult human. "Giant " was probably the wrong terminology to use..but it is a subjective term. I mean I have small kids look up at our juvenile Gorgosaurus and say " wow that's HUGE ! "  lol then the see the larger guys.  If you've never had the chance to stand toe to toe with a 1:1 dinosaur it's really hard to describe them.

It's also not like Papo keeps to scale anyway really..some are larger some are smaller.
Point taken.  ;D

I want more real Dinosaurs, but I wont lie, I would also like Papo to make the JP Dilophosaurus. Simply no frill.

amanda

I would think a Papo Ceratosaurus would not be too much larger than the WS one, if their Carnotaurus is any indication. A Dilopho would likely be around Raptor sized if they made a JP one. You really don't want that. I see them either making an actual "true" Dilopho, or a JP one. But the JP one would have the frill. I wonder. All of the early figures were obviously "JP Inspired", but not official releases for that line. Perhaps one of the reasons we have not seen a Dilopho in that style IS the frill. It would be maybe TOO close were they to do an actual JP Spitter.

Blade-of-the-Moon

They could do one sans the frill..like when it's closed ?  I honestly don't mind either way.

Yea, I was referring to the actual creatures themselves. Agreed, the figures would be fairly small.
And I will assure you, a 6m creature is a giant. I've dived with 3m long sharks and they look gigantic.
Seeing 4m crocs in the wild is pretty humbling as well. So I imagine a 6m or larger theropod that is much taller would definitely earn a 'giant' title in my books.
Then again, I also agree that putting the Giganotosaurus and Ceratosaurus/Dilophosaurus in the same league seems kinda unfair to Big G.

I read on a blog that Papo is planning on releasing a Giganotosaurus. Most likely complete hearsay, of course....but wouldn't it be nice? >:D

QuoteGiganotosaurus may have been even bigger than T-Rex.  And the what makes him even scarier is that he hunted in packs.  This sculpt by Schleich isn't as nicely detailed as the Papo dinosaurus.  But it's still a pretty nice figure and it has an articulated jaw as well.  Papo is planning to release a Giganotosaurus in 2014 so you might want to hold off until then.

Wow that would be so awesome i was dreaming of a Papo Giganotosaurus since i bought the Allosaurus. This wait is agonising.

I wouldn't bet on that blog posting.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Depends on where they got their information I guess.

sauroid

we wouldnt be all pining for a 1:40 Giganotosaurus if only Schleich made a decent one. (but then again, even if Schleich did a nice one, we'd still want Papo to make a much cooler Giganotosaurus)

yeah it wouldn't matter if everyone did one..I'm sure we'd all still like to see Papo's efforts. ;)

No kidding.
Has anyone heard anything new about Sideshow, by the way?

No kidding. I just hope they release soon. I am about to snap under the mental stress of waiting.  ;D ;) ;)

I'm also curious if they will release any other non-dinosaur pieces I might like.
I've been keeping an eye out..nothing since the magazine teasers and the notice of the Mosasaur.

I started a Sideshow-new for 2014 board for when they do.

Yes, more ceratopsians!

...if Papo ever made a Mamenchisaurus :o....a future sauropod release will probably be contingent upon their Brachiosaurus sales (interestingly enough, the price of the Brachio on Amazon  dropped from $49 to $35). I suspect that the Brachio sold reasonably well, based on a very unscientific sample of the number of Amazon reviews per Papo toy:

Papo T-rex (94 reviews)
Papo Running T-rex (70 reviews)
Papo Spinosaurus (69 reviews)
Papo Velociraptor (43 reviews)
Papo Allosaurus (40 reviews)
Papo Pteranodon (40 reviews)
Papo Triceratops (32 reviews)
Papo Ankylosaurus (25 reviews)
Papo Styracosaurus (20 reviews)
Papo Pachycephalosaurus (19 reviews)
Papo Pachyrhinosaurus (19 reviews)
Papo Stegosaurus (18 reviews)
Papo Parasaurolophus (16 reviews)
Papo Brachiosaurus (14 reviews)
Papo Smilodon (14 reviews)
Papo Oviraptor (13 reviews)
Papo Carnosaurius (13 reviews)
Papo Wooly Mammoth (9 reviews)
Papo Green baby T-rex (9 reviews)
Papo Brown baby T-rex (7 reviews)
Papo Plesiosaurus (7 reviews)
Papo Tylosaurus (6 reviews)
Papo Woolly Rhinoceros (4 reviews)
Papo Dimetrodon (1 review)
Papo baby Mammoth (0 reviews)

Newer models are expected to have accumulated less reviews. Theropods are clearly the most popular type of dinosaur toy for Papo. Ceratopsians sell moderately well.
I don't think Papo's Brachiosaurus has been very succesful, after all.

Just curious here no one has any new or insider information about the 2014 releases. Like how much they are going to release or something? Well if someone knew they would have said already but just asking cause i am getting quite impatient now.

Supposedly ,we should know Papo's 2014 releases before this Friday.
Don't worry,I'm also terribly impatient. If even in January I was excited about 2014 Papo's releases, just imagine how much would I be now.

Didn't someone mention Dec 20th?
So if we get the info before Friday, it's a bonus.
Just a little more, we have waited too long to falter at the end.
