The Monochrome Thread

This is my little new thread and it is supposed to sum the monochrome companies, compare them to each other and discuss their charme. Everyone´s invited!

Let´s start with the monochrome classic companies:

Invicta - provides THE classic museum line, descending from Marx in look and feel
Marx - THE classic line
ROM (Royal Ontario Museum)
Linde - not really a toy, but a coffee trading company
Kleinwelka - the "German Invictas"

The Oddities are WHITE POST dinosaurs. http://www.dinosaurcollector.150m.com/whitePost.htm
They base on sculpts in a private dinosaur park. As Randy Knol says, it´s nearly impossible to find them, they remain a mistery.

I love the monochrome look because it reveals sculpting details. It brought a little seriousness into my dino-lover life for they often don´t look like toys, but rather as scientific models. Exactly what I needed when I was 15, was tired of people laughing at me becaus I didn´t grow out of my dino-phase  and saw Invicta Diplodocus.  ;D

So: Why do you like (or dislike) monochrome look? Do you even own a WHITE POST animal? Why do or don´t you paint your Krentz models? Have you ever painted the monoliths yourself and regretted it?
Can you contribute another monochrome company?

You have forgotten Timpo!

Some other monochromes are: mpc, nabisco, sinclair, tootsie-toys, ajax, and early plahos.
Oh, and shreddies and topps!

Cherileas may have also been made in an unpainted, monochrome form (two of mine show no paint residue at all).

Millers were almost monochrome, some having very little paint-work done aside from the eyes and mouth.

[...] and early plahos.

Are there really monochrome Plahos?

I've got three early ones, and they certainly are painted, it's a brownish/greyish layer with a subtle golden shine. Or to say it in other words, they look quite dirty  ^-^. The eyes are also painted seperately.

Of course it's possible a few unpainted figures left the factory, and then there are the figures that were so intensly played with they lost all paint, and got monochrome in the end  :). But as far as I know the Plahos were never intentionally sold as monochrome toys. However, if I am wrong, I would be thrilled and extremely eager to find such a Plaho!  :D

And... wonderful to start a thread specifically on monochrome toys!! 'The Monochrome Thread' - sounds pretty cool  8)

Seijun

My mistake! I don't own an early plahos, but assumed from pictures that they were an unpainted grey plastic.

This thread is useless without photos.  ::) C'mon, show them off!
(And no, links don't count.)

At the moment (I just packed my whole collection because I am moving) this is the only picture of my monochromes I can share. Unfortunately the picture dates from about a year ago, and therefore is not up to date. For instance, my unpainted Invicta collection wasn't complete at that time (it is now :D), and I also acquired some more Kleinwelkas (color variations) and Timpos.

I promise to make new photo's when I am completely settled again  ^-^

Left: Invicta, Right: Kleinwelka. Also Linde and a little bit of Timpo.

And also in the picture above (but hard - almost impossible - to see): the Basel Tsintaosaurus. Although it's not part of a line - just one special figure for an exhibition - it deserves it's place in The Monochrome Thread  ;D

Tylosaurus

That is a nice collection you got there mnemosaurus ! Nice Lambeosaurus too!

What is that animal next to the left Iguanodon, it looks like some sort of crocodile :)

Thanks  :)

I think you mean the Kleinwelka Deinosuchus.

Here's another picture of it, together with the Kleinwelka Stegosaurus:

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'd love to find the Kleinwelka sauropods.. ;D

I have most of the Invictas (which are awesome figures), but I also have this little monochrome gem...

(For those who aren't familiar with these Krentz figures, that's the foot of the Collecta 'deluxe' T. rex on the left.)

And it's true, monochrome models retain a lot of the sculpting details that can otherwise be buried underneath a sloppy paint job. I agree that the Carnegies would benefit from monochrome editions.

Beautiful collection, so you have all the Kleinwelka figures?

Some of the Stoneage Monochrome Figures:

Sinclair & SRC

Linde

Invicta

Nabisco Prehistoric Mammals

MPC

Kleinwelka Diplodocus with painted Invicta

I would also include the various Shapeways figures (before being painted of course) and the odd-man-out Tsintaosaurus from Switzerland.

Thanks, it's too bad you don't have one to review.  I'd like to hear what you'd have to say.

:)  Great pictures Seijun!  I really like looking at the different colors of your invictas.  I also have the Basel Tsintaosaurus but I haven't photographed it yet.

SBell

I'll just add my Basel Tsintaosaurus.

I prefer colour over monochrome, but I have to say that your collection of mono dinosaurs is very lovely  ^-^

What's with the usually coloured Invicta Megalosaurus in the 4th pic?

Seijun

The clear meg is a "painted" one that never got painted (painted invictas were cast in clear plastic). The others are a pearlescent green one, a grey one, a light green one, and a dark green one.
