That's cool! I've been working on a 1:1 as well, and it would go perfectly with your velociraptor. Can you guess what it's going to be?

Cool would be a Therizinosaurus, but I'm guessing Protoceratops? :) In any case: show us, please!

Protoceratops is correct! I have all the shapes cut out and after doing the Piñatas I learned I really like paper mâché, so I think I'll start with that. I'll try to post pics soon.  :)

I can't wait to see that! I've always liked Protoceratops , maybe because as a child I was so fascinated of the fighting pair fossils.

I've always liked Protoceratops too. It has such a fun head and I always thought it was a good pet size, just big enough to sit on LOL. I wonder what it used its big jaw and beak for, a snapping turtles beak is very strong, can you imagine the bite force of a Proto beak? I wonder if there are any studies on that. Anyways, here's what I've done so far: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=3125.msg99082#new

Looking great so far!

Most of 'Flicker' is covered in newspaper by now. I also started covering half of the face and bulking out some of the fleshy parts in between the openings. Still a long way to go...

I still need to figure out a good way to turn the paper mache into a sculptable clay, so I can brush over the entire thing and make some proper facial details.

Kayakasaurus

You could try home made paper mâché clay from ultimatepaperrmache website. You put it on thin and it's fairly sculptable (is that a word?) I have been considering it but I'm not to that step yet. I'm going to need to sculpt the Proto head details. Tell me how it works out!

Maybe try Jonni Good's recipe for airdry paper clay. It is a little trickier to make than paper mache but it is easier to sculpt details with.

Or if you want something simpler, you could try paper mache "pulp" over the paper strips you've already added. I'd personally go with this method since it's so simple.

Either way I'm excited to see how it goes. It looks fantastic so far.

That is just amazing so far ... I do hope that you will make the teeth from the upper jaw slightly visible ...

fabricious

Progress on the Velociraptor! Still playing around with different sculpting techniques and paper maché recipes.

Sorry, no visible teeth in this one.

Also, I couldn't help myself and started a new one... it will most likely just be a bust, but we'll see if I'll get carried away too much. Can you guess what it is? ;)

A pterosaur...maybe a tapejara?

Yes, ten points for Gryffindor! I just had to start on this guy... such awesome pterosaurs! And not too big, haha... ;)

Quick update on the Tapejara wellnhoferi bust, since that went a lot quicker than the big one.

Cool!

I need more pterosaurs here I think as well..lol  If everything goes well with the Quetz I'm doing then I might do a Tupuxuara.

Sounds like a neat idea! Even though I turned this one into a bust, I'm quite tempted to try myself at doing a full one, in mid-flight, with an interesting wing pose (so it doesn't look like every other pterosaur sculpture out there). But for now... :D

I know what you mean. This perched Quetz is giving me nothing but headaches figuring out the wing positions though. I've done my pterosaurs in the past with straight wings as it just makes them stronger to be posed that way.  If/When I get to the Tupu it will be in flight for sure..so much easier to do..but  Iwill probably keep the straight wings.

I can see how it can be quite the static issue, especially with the more heavy materials you need to use for them. Let's see where I can take this with paper mache... I am especially curious how I'll be able to tackle the issue of adding fur to this one.

Yeah my medium has been plywood and wire...the vinyl coating isn't lite either.  There's no way I can add fur outdoors..unless it's with the pricey Apoxie Sculpt. Maybe a stencil and paint them on like I did with the Oviraptors?
