Done!

The Randomiser is fun. And the Most Commented is interesting: the top 3 most commented reviews are all T. rex.
Personally, I like the « A to Z » sort option as my favourite dino biscuits and fish songs appear at the top of the list ;D lol

Yeah, I noticed that on the front page!  :*D  It's because they have * at the beginning of the title. Maybe I'll remove that.

But there's not much point in sorting everything. It's more useful for sorting sub-sets in the archives. :)

Definitely.

Speaking of changes, avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum, I've come across a review in need of editing. Namely that it's without genus tags!

The sort options are pretty useful, thanks!

Handy isn't it.

In case anyone's still unsure, the sort dropdown is here (circled in blue) and appears on every archive page (categories, tags, authors) as well as the main feed (front page and subsequent pages). Previously, the front page and feed was ordered by date only, and the archive pages were ordered alphabetically only. You can now choose how you want to order them by selecting from the dropdown.

That is very helpful to have. Thanks for adding it.

Quote from: DinoToyForum on March 26, 2025, 02:11:15 PMDo people use the Quick Links sections often? I'm thinking about removing them for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they are a bit sluggish to load and slow the site down. Secondly, they don't obey the filters, so if someone filters by, say, Brand: Mattel, and Genus: Velociraptor, the posts will be filtered to show only Mattel Velociraptors, but the Quick Links at the top will still show all Mattel reviews. It's not a big deal though, so if the Quick Links truly add value we can keep them. I rarely use them.

Thanks to everyone who fed back on this question. The recent addition of the post order dropdown on archive pages made me more comfortable removing the quick links section. So, they are now gone from the Brands archives, and I'll remove them soon from the genus pages.

Inspired by avatar_DinoToyCollector @DinoToyCollector's recent updates I've tried to list the active filters under the title on DinoToyBlog's Archive pages. So, for example, filtering on the brand Jurassic World Hammond Collection, classification Allosaur, and age Cretaceous (https://dinotoyblog.com/category/jurassic-world-hammond-collection/?classification=allosaur&age=cretaceous), should now show as

Brand: Jurassic World Hammond Collection
+ Classification: Allosaur + Age: Cretaceous

It hopefully makes it clear when filters are active.

It seems to work with every combo except Age + Product Type for some reason, so I need to solve that.

I will miss the quick links section; it was neat to see a full gallery of reviewed figures per brand or genus. The new sort dropdown should prove handy, though.

Here's a thought: is there a way to filter OUT the "announcements" when submitting a search? Sometimes I like to check what review numbers we have on a certain category, but the announcements tend to throw those numbers off.

Faelrin

Agree with avatar_Fembrogon @Fembrogon on both the quick links and filtering out announcements. I would have thought the filter reviews button would do this, but it doesn't. I also noticed I can't scroll on the list of taxa on the sidebar (under Dinosaur Name). Not sure if it is an issue on my end or not. Can anyone else confirm scrolling doesn't work on it?

I use a plugin for the filter https://wordpress.org/plugins/search-filter/#description and it has a bug where the filter doesn't work for post types (in my case, Reviews, Announcements, News), even though it should. This wouldn't matter because the different post types have their own taxonomies, except for Brand, which Announcements and Reviews both share. So, filtering on Brand also yields Announcements. Hopefully when the plugin is next updated the post type filter is fixed.

Scroll works for me on the Dinosaur Name dropdown. Is it broken for anyone else?

I was wondering if it would be possible to assign "more precise" scores to the figures, for instance 4.5/5 or to rate them out of 10 ?

I looked into this, as well as the possibility of having ratings out of 10. Unfortunately, the plugin I use doesn't offer that functionality. :-\

I also was wondering if we could do this for the Dino To Collector site avatar_DinoToyCollector @DinoToyCollector

DinoToyCollector

Speaking for the dinotoycollector site:
I could totally implement that using half stars if it is a wish. Adapting it for 0.5 steps is no problem.

As for the DinoToyBlog:
If it's running as a WordPress plugin, I could definitely have a look — as long as you're using a vanilla plugin structure avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum

Thanks for the offer, but I tend to leave the plugin files alone. Even if we could tweak the code to achieve what we wanted, a future update from the plugin authors might break it all. And in this case, at least, I don't think it would be worth the effort or risk.  :)

Think we can get this for the Animal Toy Blog too?  O:-)

Sure! I can add both this and the sort dropdown. Maybe this weekend.

Awesome! I had some fun playing around with the one on the DTB last week. Managed to tally how many reviews I've done per genus.  :-[
