Wouldn't it be nice if they could just whip out the old name Dynamosaurus and bestow on this newbie?

If it is a new species of Tyrannosaurus, that'd be the first actual new species.  (Seems like the only people who recognise T.bataar as Tyrannosaurus these days are commercial fossil dealers looking to cash in on the name value)

Although perhaps the report uses species in place of genus.

This should generate a lot of hype when they publish the paper.  Tyrannosaur that ate mega-sauropods? Sensational.  (I'm sure many on here are already aware that Alamosaurus co-existed with Tyrannosaurs, but it's not the typical picture that's commonly presented of the late Cretaceous in N.America).

Lusotitan

Based on the wording it seems like a new genus. Certainly interesting. Not necessarily particularly closely related to T. rex within Tyrannosaurinae, either.

Arul

Manatee

If only this article could have been more in-depth. Referring to it as T. rex, Tyrannosaurus, and a tyrannosaur... where's this thing's taxonomic placement?

Paleogene Pals

Lusotitan

My best guess is that it would fall between Tetraphoneus and Lythronax, or just past Lythronax on the tree, given location.
