Paleogene Pals

Your repaints are very realistic. Some of them I couldn't tell if it was a real animal or not.

Classic Mi, forgetting the before shots again...
I sharpened the black on the tail and face, mottled the blue and red to cover some paint "splash", and repainted the beak and eyes entirely. You can see some lighter areas of the red, that's where the paint of the beak ha extended onto the face, the tail is also still slightly bent but it was completely curled over touching the floor before. If there had been another one at the Harvard museum shop I would probably have gotten that one :P

Big-headed turtle (Platysternon megacephalum) AAA, adult and juvenile.

The adult already had a very weathered look to it, so I tried to work with that. The end result is rather rough looking and I'm very pleased with it, even if it may not appear like the healthiest turtle out there :P

I've been putting off this one for months, and I'm really happy to finally finish it! I love how the shell turned out, I'll have to try that technique again for the keeled box turtle when I get to it.

Jetoar

[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

Lovely turtles, and I agree, the shells look really good.

No, they're casts made by literally putting a taxidermied (dead) specimen in a mold. That's why they (the AAA ones at least) look so lifelike.

Oh, really? Awesome! That reminds me of a funny story that happened a few months ago and actually is right on topic: While walking with my mother and sister down a woodland trail near my house, i saw a wierd stick that looked like a snake. I told my sister, "Hey, look at that stick! It's like a snake!". She picked it up, walked over to my mother, and said "Look at this weird snake-shaped stick!" That's when my mother slowly looked at my sister before saying "Honey...that...that is a snake." Of course, my sister started screaming and flung it to the floor- belly up, and it said:
"SNAKE AAA MADE IN CHINA"
To be fair it was very dirty and the paint was all gone. It looked very convincingly like a dead snake. I actually took it home, it's in my room right now.

He-he, I've had a few similar things happen while photographing some of these outside :P

Despite its many flaws I've always been very fond of the Safari Incredible Creatures Hermit Crab, and since I'll be getting crabs soon enough it finally inspired me to get around to customizing it! ;D

I based it on the most common hermit crab in the pet trade, the Caribbean hermit crab, Coenobita clypeatus. Sadly I wasn't able to add the missing antennae, but I'm still very pleased with it.

I actually finished this one a long time ago and forgot to post it, AAA Chinese water dragon, Physignathus cocincinus.

Tyto_Theropod

THE CUTENESS IS REAL PEOPLE.

Also, speaking as someone who's seen water dragons in the flesh, I'm really digging how realistic you've made your AAA model look.

I went back to painting Playmobil, a great way to get used to my new set of small brushes! Toco Toucan (Ramphastos toco) and it's in progress companion is a Red Billed Toucan (Ramphastos tucanus). The paint didn't stick well to the legs, and I ended up having to scrape it off the bottom of the "palms" to keep it from starting a chain reaction when it sat on the perch.

I really only touched this one up, Coelurosauravus elivensis. I added pupils nostrils and claws.

And here's all the Playmobil repaints I've done; Toco Toucan (Ramphastos toco), American Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber), and Coelurosauravus elivensis.

Lastly, I did this one some time ago and I think I forgot to upload it. Safari ltd Deep Sea Toob Giant Isopod (Bathynomus giganteus), I wish I could have sculpted on its missing legs.

Tyto_Theropod

If all Playmobils were painted like this, I might actually consider buying them!  ;)

Halichoeres

Does anybody make one of those isopods that crawls into fish mouths and then eats and replaces their tongues?
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I used to collect them, I have probably hundreds upon hundreds of figures. I really like something about how they turn out painted, they look almost like cartoons with the smooth shape and complex colours/patterns.

I sure wish so! I doubt it, but the ATF is definitely the place to ask.

Blue and Gold Macaw (Ara ararauna) by Hasbro from the Fur Real Friends line (marketed under Squawkers McCaw). Every now and then I go through the figures I've had for a long time, and this is always my first stop. But I can't help but notice every time the beak isn't the right colour, so I finally decided to have a crack at it! The original paint scheme is my older bird, my newer one I chose to repaint since it's overall condition was better (not denying nostalgia played a part). I'm really pleased with how it turned out, the paint is already holding up better than the factory did (even when these guys were fresh out of Zellers, oh poor poor Zellers...), and the sensors and movement for the feet, tongue, and beak are all unaffected by the touch up.

Viking Spawn

From some angles, that thing looks real!

stargatedalek

A lot more convincing still when it's moving around! Assuming of course you carefully avoid some of the cornier voice commands :P

K&M frog toob pacman frog (best guess) repainted as (non-ornate) albino morph.
