I'm not gonna lie...this looks like crap. Did they really need a frilled Dilophosaurus in this movie? I really wish Spielberg had trademarked that characteristic for the JP animal so we wouldn't have to see it used by other people. All well, it is a movie about dinosaurs so I'll be seeing it. I gotta be honest though, it looks like a straight to DVD movie or something from the SyFy channel.

Roselaar

Looks cheesy, but fun. It stills the need created by the continuing JP IV absence for a while, but not indefinitely. But the frilled Dilophosaurus is just sacreligious.

I doesn't even look as good as the animal in JP.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'm not even sure it's Dilolophosaurus..maybe some other species of frilled dino.  But the whole film feels a lot like a JP knockoff.  Not exactly a bad thing..it does seem to have a lot of different prehistoric animals in it. If given opportunity I'll give it a chance.

It says on the site it's coming to U.K. theaters..no word yet on anywhere else.

I don't know about a JP rip-off (aside from JP inspired dinosaurs) but it certainly has a "lost world" feel to it. I don't mean JP: The Lost World but rather movies that focus on a group of explorers who find themselves in a lost world, like the older dinosaurs movies such as...well... "The Lost World", "The Land Unknown" and "The Land that Time Forgot".

Well let me point out some examples..in it's own way the JP franchise was a Lost World one as well..especially the TLW and JP3.

  Helicopter crash/ JP3 plane crash
Dilo frill as mentioned
cast feels like a JP one..pretty much down to their looks.
River raft attack / swimming theropods not JP film but JP novel inspired.

It doesn't detract really though.

I dunno, when it comes to dinosaurs interacting with humans there are only so many angles you can play. Jurassic Park was one angle, cloned animals in a theme park. Movies like King Kong play another, explorers finding a lost world. Similarities are bound to happen in such a specific sub-genre.

Damn, it looks like they are saying "screw it" to accuracy

OK about that Frilled Dinosaur. I actually paused it on that scene (1.14), and i did not see a crest on its head. Also, they look like some crappy CGI critters that were just slapped in.

I hate it when companies just do that, instead of making them feel like they are part of the world.

But because i Like dinosaurs, i will probably suck my nerd rage up, and go see it if it comes to America

Horridus

Looks like typical straight-to-DVD clag. Amazed it's getting a theatrical release anywhere.

Watch out! That plesiosaur may gnaw you a little!  :o

Blade-of-the-Moon

Recall the company making these dinos is same one that did Dinosaur Planet from what I've read.  That one with a frill might be a baby of some other species besides a Dilo..it's eyes look pretty large.

There is also another element they could play..slightly evolved dinos like the Kong ones..it's been a long time since those fossil bones were left after all. lol

krentz

Ya know...I actually had hope for this one.  They lost me at the JP dilophosaur...

Why is it that dinosaur films in the 90's have great animation, and nowdays the films have animation that is so bad, it is obvious that its not real? I understand, some people don't have the money, but, I excpected better animation as we go on. It turns out it gets worse!

However, shots in Episode 2, Episode 4, and some of Episode 3 of Dinosaur Revolution are very real, the best I've seen since Walking with Dinosaurs.

And now any dinosaur sci-fi show or film (except Primeval) after Jurassic Park, is very cheesy. You just can't beat classic like JP. ;)

Nobs

has anybody had the chance to see this yet?
It was released on Aug 10 in the UK and some other countries.

Curious to find out what species are in this film.

From the trailor I can gather:
Pteranodon
Unknown therapod
Unknown Pterosaur
Pleasiosaur

I've seen this movie and I can say, it sucks. Really, the CGI is very bad and the overall plot is very boring, there's not a single scene in that movie worth of attention. All critters are really inaccurate and the story itself doesn't bring any excitement.

King Kong 2005 was pretty good. Aside from that (and technically JP3) we haven't had any big budget dinosaur movies not aimed at children since Jurassic Park (and TLW). I think the reason modern films may look worse is because of the transition from traditional effects versus CGI. By traditional I mean stop motion, animation and animatronics. Nowadays CGI dominates and while it can look great in big budget features (JP, King Kong) when done on the cheap it looks terrible, worse even than traditional methods from "back in the day".
