It's okay. The people over at Dawn of the Dinosaurs: Triassic Toys really like my Triassic themed photos. And so do the guys over at the Toyway Walking with Dinosaurs thread. And that's where you'll find me from here on. From here on, I will be making my own judgements about best figures. See ya!  :P :P :P :P :P

avatar_frank08 @frank08 That's not really what was being asked...this thread is specific to the collection of avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres so it's an awkward etiquette to add photos of your own collection to ask opinions on it--you can create your own thread to do that. It's not that we don't like the photos or anything, it's that it can be really easy to derail threads!

Yesterday I was furiously trying to get all my students' papers graded for the end of the year, and it looks like I missed some adventures hereabouts. avatar_frank08 @frank08 you're always welcome to discuss the merits of figures here; sometimes there are aspects I haven't considered and sometimes people bring figures to my attention that I didn't know existed.

As for the Bullyland figures, it took a long time, but eventually I got them through a mix of eBay shopping, finding some on out-of-the-way toy store shelves, and trading with members on the forum. I actually have a few extras that I'll eventually be posting in my trade thread.

Okay guys, to clear up some confusion I made a new thread. Just find me @DinosaurToyPaleoart. If you have any figure art to post there or anything to recommend for art, just post it or let me know.

You're funny!  ;D ;D :)) ;D ;D :)) :)) :)) :)) But I have an interesting fact. They recently gave Nanuqsaurus a size up. The Nanuqsaurus grew from 16 feet to 20 feet. Does this affect your scale of Nanuqsaurus or did you already corrrect that?

Yep! My scale estimate is based on a total length of 6 meters.

Let's rank these dinosaur figures from worst to best. Mattel Albertosaurus, Geoworld Albertosaurus, and the Carnegie Albertosaurus. Rank them in a scale of 1 to 3. One being best. Three being worst.

Clearly you've never seen the abominable Schleich Albertosaurus.

frank08

I have and I don't think it's worthy of being even on this list. You can put it on there is you like. But I think that all of the figures of Albertosaurus (including the Geoworld) are better than the Schleich Alberto.

I wasn't going to. This is a thread for avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres collection after all. Not really the place.

frank08

Okay then, I have a better question. Where can you find the Dino a King Isisaurus? I need an Isisaurus in my collection.

I continue my quest to find 1:30 to 1:50 scale tyrannosaurs. It should be easy. I have mostly T. rexes in my Tyrannosaurine collection but I will work on diversity.

#1335
With a collection as large and changeable as mine, it feels spammy to me to update this thread every time I get a new figure, so I usually wait until I accumulate a few. Obviously, the last several months haven't been conducive to new acquisitions, but here finally are a few Jurassic eukaryotes:

Planeta De Agostini Dracovenator regenti (Dinosaurs & Co. Super Maxxi)
Scale: 1:25
Released: 2020
Lower Jurassic Gondwana
A very questionable figure. It shares a mold with DeAgostini's terrible Dilophosaurus, and it shares a color scheme with Schleich's most recent Dilophosaurus. But this godawful thing is marketed as a Dracovenator, so I went for it. Like the Aucasaurus I showed a couple of months ago, it seems to be afflicted with the filarial worm infection commonly known as elephantiasis.

Temag Heterodontosaurus
Scale: 1:13
Released: 1993
Lower Jurassic Gondwana
I bought this and the next piece from an eBay seller in Italy, mainly out of sheer curiosity. It consists of a layer of foam sandwiched between a glossy printed picture and a flexible magnetic sheet. It is definitely intended as a toy, but it's not really a figure per se, so I'm not sure I'll hang on to it. But it looks more like a Heterodontosaurus than any toy of the genus I've ever seen. It has the long legs, although the left foot looks weirdly underdeveloped. It has the long fingers, although maybe a little too long. It has the snaggly teeth. The tail is too short, but this is not just a generic biped like, for example, the Inpro Heterodontosaurus.

With Kaiyodo's JPIII Compsognathus for scale.

Temag Campylognathoides
Scale: 1:11
Released: 1993
Upper Jurassic Laurasia
This might be the only Campylognathoides toy expressly intended as such. I have the Waiphoon figure widely referred to as a Campylognathoides, but to the best of my knowledge Waiphoon never called it that, only collectors did. This has an unfortunate neck posture, but it's actually a fairly reasonable representation for the time. It's fuzzy and it has the unusually long, narrow wings that Campylognathoides is known for. The glue that holds the three layers together is starting to give way, understandable after 27 years. I'd love to have a good, realistic figure of this genus or of Scaphognathus, the first pterosaur in which fuzzy skin was reported, all the way back in 1831! (http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=7420.msg218803)

Mattel's Coelurus tries to take a bite.

Aurora Plastics cf. Cycadeoidea
Scale: 1:10-1:20
Released: 1972
Jurassic-Cretaceous
A few years back I bought a mostly-complete Aurora Jungle Swamp kit. Man, it is a mess, containing elements from the late Paleozoic all the way to the Cenozoic. I've only recently gotten around to trying to figure out where I can use the plants (the only part of the set I'm really interested in). These look pretty clearly like bennettitalians, based on the placement of the reproductive structures, and the pinnate crown of leaves and squat trunk make it a pretty good match for Cycadeoidea. Cycadeoidea is sort of the Moschops of prehistoric plant toys: everybody made one in the mid-20th century, but now almost nobody does. Brumm made one, Aurora made one, and Berliner Zinnfiguren made one. I wonder if Anthony Beeson's familiarity with these older sets is part of why he had CollectA make one. If so, I hope we see the rest of the Brumm flora from CollectA someday!

Good browse for Mattel's Callovosaurus. Normally JP figures aren't my go-to scale references, but most of my dinosaurs still haven't been unpacked after my last move. It's been a busy school year, especially teaching all my courses remotely for the first time.

(I believe questions posed by avatar_frank08 @frank08 have been adequately answered elsewhere, but do let me know if I've missed anything.)

Yeah, that Dracovenator reminds me why I don't collect bad figures just for the sake of having a repesentation of an unique species.

Aurora Jungle Swamp? That's a pretty nice set. Also pretty much sums up the temporal range of Aurora Prehistoric Scenes. For a similar mess of a set, you should check out the  "Undersea Dinosaur Action Set", featuring sealife from the Ordovician till the Eocene and the only Dinosaurs featured are a pair of Hesperornis
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Okay! I get the message! Now let's all just calm down. I can ask whatever questions I want about whatever dinosaur figure. No one can change that. Freedom of speech. I don't know where to find those Deaugustini figures. I need some tips.
